Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Atkins have been awarded a major infrastructure commission focusing on improving highways, drainage the urban environment for the community. Under our commission, our client, Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal), has tasked Atkins over the next 5 years with improving with infrastructure for the Doha West Area with a population of approx. 500,000 people and including some of Qatar’s highest profile localities.

Responsibilities

Ensuring that HSS induction is provided to all new starters including visitors.
Investigating and reporting all incidents/accidents as per our Client’s and legislative requirements ensuring that root causes are identified and remedial actions are closed out.
Promptly informing Resident Engineer and Safety Manager of incidents.
Providing in-house HSS training to Atkins site personnel and if necessary the Contractor, to equip them for working on the project in a healthy and safe manner.
Advising members of the project team on application of the systems and procedures when requested or when observations suggest such is necessary.
Checking that traffic management plans and diversions have suitable and sufficient signage, barricades and lighting.
Assisting in the development of emergency response plans and arrange for drills to be conducted. Participating in emergency drills and responses as required.
Assisting to create a positive H&S through personal attitude and behaviour.
Collating statistical evidence reference lost time accidents and traffic accidents for populating our KPI returns and HSS objective performance.
Conducting daily safety inspections of all work activities in assigned project area to ensure they are being carried out as per the requirements of QCS 2010, legal requirements, Atkins H&S procedures and the contractor’s Health and Safety Plan and procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
Conducting equipment checks on ladders, safety harnesses, false works, working at height, safety checks on trucks, earth moving equipment and cranes before they start work on site.
Liaising with contractors’ safety personnel on deficiencies found during inspections relating to their work scope, advising how to close out each point raised.

Requirements

BSc, B Eng, BA or Equivalent
5 or more years of construction safety experience or 4 years of similar experience
