Job description / Role
Atkins geospatial and information management professionals provide a range of services from data acquisition, spatial analysis, information and data management, to systems design and integration. Our drive is to deliver innovative, quality solutions to our clients to enable them to use data to make well informed decisions in a user friendly and intuitive environment.
Atkins has been appointed the role of Planning and Integration Consultant for the Qatar Central Planning Office and have establish a project team in the clients office. The remit is to coordinate the development of new and upgrading infrastructure in the country. The Atkins GIS team provide analysis and manipulation of a large amount of spatial data to support this and are currently looking for a Senior GIS Developer to join the project team in Doha.
Role and Responsibilities:
Deliver multiple standalone GIS projects by architecting and implementing customized web applications, web services, mobile applications and enterprise solutions
Work with a range of development tools specific to GIS
Troubleshoot issues reported by end users
Implement web technologies effectively to create modern websites that work on various platforms
Participate in the full software project lifecycle
Integration of GIS components into corporate IT systems (e.g. EDMS, ERP, PMIS, etc.)
Interface with diverse business users to identify, develop and implement custom applications
Requirements
Skills or Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of work experience as a GIS Web Developer
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Mapping Application Software. Experience ESRI ArcGIS Server 10.1/10.2 and/or ArcGIS Online will be ideal
Extensive experience with Javascript, the ArcGIS Javascript API and Dojo framework.
Experience or familiarity with the MSFT Silver Light is desired
Familiarity with common design patterns used in web development
Experience with modern web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, AJAX, JSON, RESTful web services) for developing large web-based software solutions
Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS (2008 R2 preferred)
Proficiency with ASP.NET and the Microsoft .NET framework (C# Preferred)
Experience using a source code repository such as Team Foundation Server (E.g. TFS 2010).
Experience with ArcSDE on SQL Server with strong knowledge of SQL
Experience with the configuration and operation of IIS web server
Experience with mobile device iOS or Android will be added value
Familiarity with GML, GeoRSS, GEoJSON and other OGC standards
Solid knowledge of GIS principles and theory including map projections, remote sensing, geodesy, linear referencing, network analysis and cartography
Ability to rapidly prototype web applications to showcase new concepts and ideas
Application of good software design and agile development practices in daily activities
Ability to master new technologies quickly and to work in a constantly evolving environment
Outstanding and proven problem solving skills, positive attitude and self-motivation
Experience in infrastructure projects (transport related desired)
Education:
Bachelors degree in Geometrics Engineering, GIS or related discipline and/or equivalent experience
