The Company

My client, one of world's leading marine services businesses, has an exciting opportunity for a senior manager within the port operations/marine sector. This role will be based in Sohar, Oman.

The Role


Reporting to the Country Manager Oman (based in Muscat), the main tasks for the successful candidate will include:

To be responsible for the safe, timely and efficient towage operations and associated services in the port of Sohar, having clear accountability for the service to the customer.
Responsibility for the operational readiness, maintenance and sea-worthiness of the vessels under his control.
To work closely with the Country Manager and the support team both ashore and afloat in Sohar, to provide the best possible customer service, whilst at all times supporting my client's interest and assets.
Provide cover and relevant support as required to the other port operations in Oman.
To ensure that direct reports are provided with the required guidance, support and training to ensure continued and uninterrupted service to the customer.
To motivate and develop a high level of crew competence, ISM awareness and promulgate a culture of continual improvement in the operations.
To maintain and foster positive and conducive relationships with crew members and local representatives, and ensuring all vessel are manned properly and legally in accordance with safe manning certification and associated maritime legislation.
Monitoring and close adherence to technical and procurement budgets, crew costs and associated local costs, to ensure that the business remains run in accordance with Group and Regional guidelines.
P & L awareness and participation in forecast preparation in conjunction with the Country Manager.
Ad hoc projects as required by management.

The position will require some occasional travel throughout Oman, and to regional office in Dubai.

Requirements

The Person
- The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, experience and skills:
- Ideally degree qualified or equivalent, with min higher level education
- Sea-going experience as a deck officer, ideally within the towage or offshore sectors
- Previous experience in a similar role as shore based operational staff with a multi-national environment
- Must have strong knowledge of ISM, SOLAS, MLC certification and requirements
- Sound knowledge of the maritime industry, in particular exposure to a strong safety culture
- Strong negotiation and relationship building skills are pre-requisites
- A strong team player, but also able to work well individually with a proactive and positive hands-on approach
- Ambitious, goal-oriented, and able to maintain a good sense of humor whilst at times working under pressure to tight deadlines
- Solid experience with MS Office applications
- A strong and confident communicator, with a high level of proficiency in both written and verbal English.
