General Manager

Job description / Role

Working for a main contractor, the General Manager will be primarily responsible for planning, developing, and directing all groups business activities through aligning the strategic objectives and cascading these to the business plans and ensuring execution to provide maximum profit and return. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Managing Director & Members of the Board.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Business Strategy / Financial Management:
- Conceptualize and lead all of the companies operations (Currently in Bahrain / KSA / Oman), by following company policies, guidelines and goals communicated by the company.
- Ensure efficient and effective cooperation between Project Management Teams (PMTs), Manufacturing and Logistics Business Units and other Supporting Services (Procurement, HR, Finance, I.T).
- Manage P&L and balance sheet performance of both ongoing projects as well as M&L business units. Drive overall profitability and build sources of growth and value creation in line with organizational targets.
- Develop and operationalize strategies, annual operating plans, annual budgets, while measuring progress on an ongoing basis.
- Coordinate project management activities and supervise the Project Management Teams.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for the development of all the projects.
- Take an active part in Business Development.
- Coordinate and guide the operations team development and resource allocation.

Operational Excellence/ Team Management:
- Responsible to secure effective management of the projects.
- Act as a navigator and a visionary to build and lead a team of dynamic and innovative professionals.
- Promote good morale and cooperation amongst all Project Management Teams and Supporting Services.
- Create strong team spirit and lead by example
- Protect and promote corporate reputation.
- Ensure business processes, tools, and internal controls to support operations.
- Be responsible for capital investment planning and control and implement business excellence.
- Participate in regular executive meetings and ensure regular communication of business performance against objectives.
- Develop strong relationships and communication links with all key stakeholders.
- Assume responsibility for ensuring business compliance with company corporate policies/procedures and guidelines, including environmental, health and safety etc.

Key Skills:
- Strategic Management skills (Planning, Financial, Analysis, Business development) are required.
- Strong team-building and managerial skills
- Good computer skills
- Business-oriented mindset. Strong judgment and strategic thinking. Mental agility with ability to focus on key issues quickly and incisively
- Ability in project management and in developing project plans, coordinate projects, communicate changes and progress, complete projects in time and in line with agreed budget.

Requirements

- Degree in Civil Engineering or similar from is essential for this role.
- Masters in Project / Construction Management is highly desirable.
- Vast and progressive experience in the Construction industry globally, with extensive experience in the G.C.C
- Previous project management experience globally. PM experience in the GCC is advantageous.
- Previous experience in a GM role is advantageous but not essential to the right profile.
