Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The successful candidate will be joining at a critical and exciting time as we transition from a single rig appraisal operation to an eight rig development operation. He/she will be part of the NWD team planning wells (overburden characterization, trajectory planning, risk management, completion of well planning documentation) and providing the geological input to communication and operational decision-making for the drilling of wells. The emphasis of the role is on field development well planning, operational support and integration of new well data into reservoir understanding in the office, and not the execution of well plans as a well site geologist at the rig site.

New Well Delivery

- Member of subsurface NWD team charged with efficiently planning sufficient wells (up to 24 wells per year) to stay a minimum of 12 months ahead of the drill bit

- Ensure subsurface planning and execution of wells meets BP standards and practices adhering to the new NWD RAPID process

- Contribute to detailed offset well reviews as required to understand Non Productive Time events

- Maintenance/enhancement of detailed overburden description and model for trajectory planning

- Maintenance of pore pressure and fracture gradient prediction tool

- Well planning for current and future development wells, including optimising surface locations and well targets, preparation of Well Initiation Documents and Statements of Requirements for individual, or clusters of, wells to document well objectives, trajectory, prognosis, hazards, risks and uncertainties, data acquisition plan and decision trees

- Ensure effective communication between subsurface and wells teams.

- Monitor real-time drilling information, integrating data with geo-understanding to inform operational decision making

- Make, and provide (as appropriate) subsurface input to, operational decisions

- Ensure timely completion of end of well reviews
Other

- Provide input to geological databases

- Coordination of routine core analyses and related studies

- Integration of data from new wells into reservoir understanding and description

Requirements

A minimum of BSc Degree or equivalent in Geology or related sciences

An extensive grounding in Geosciences (ideally, 5-10 years relevant industry experience) is required, with a passion for working in operational settings and a proven track record in well planning. Strong communications skills, including the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of technical specialists, are necessary, as is the ability to work effectively within and across teams to create integrated products. Strong candidates for this role will have:

* Well planning experience in a variety of depositional and structural settings in the oil/gas industry, ideally including experience of horizontal, hydraulically fractured wells in Oman

* Experience mapping and interpreting seismic

* Interpretation skills in real-time data, wireline/LWD data and drilling information

* Knowledge of pore pressure and fracture gradient fundamentals.

* Skillful application of geological software (e.g. Landmark, Earthvision, RMS, Petrel or other relevant software)
