Description and Desired Qualifications

ASHGHAL has embarked on a major programme of expanding and upgrading the wastewater infrastructure in the State of Qatar. The existing sewerage system in Doha consists of shallow sewers and numerous pumping stations. This system is becoming overloaded due to the scale and pace of development in Doha. A major tunnelled interceptor scheme is proposed in the Doha South STW catchment to reduce the number of pumping stations and to meet the long term needs of Doha. This scheme is called IDRIS. IDRIS comprises seven packages: (1) deep trunk sewer tunnel, (2) lateral tunnelled interceptor sewers, (3) terminal pumping station at Doha South STW, (4) forwarding and return TSE pumping stations, (5) sewage forwarding and TSE return mains and (6) new Doha South STW, and (7) ocean outfall.

Summary of Job Purpose
CH2M HILL has been retained as the programme manager for the Qatar Public Works Authority Inner Doha Resewerage Strategy Implementation (IDRIS) Programme. IDRIS is PWA's flagship drainage project.
The anticipated components of IDRIS include:

New interceptor sewers associated with gravitation of dozens of existing pump stations
Approximately 35-km of new deep tunnel trunk sewer and appurtenances
Terminal tunnel pump station
New Doha South Sewage Treatment Works
Emergency sea outfall
Treated sewage effluent return pump station and transmission pipeline
CH2M HILL is looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our IDRIS Programme Management team in the role of Geotechnical Engineer.

Responsibilities of this role include:

Work with the team's management and permitting staff to assist with obtaining the necessary approvals and permits required for the geotechnical investigation programme.
Provide day-to-day oversight of the geotechnical investigation programme.
Assist with preparation of the IDRIS Concept Design and Preliminary Design Reports.
Assist in preparation of required geotechnical documents that will be included in the various tender documents.
Assist with development of design/build tender documents for the defined construction contracts.
Assist with review of Tenderers' Technical Proposal submittals.
Assist with review of D/B Contractor's design and shop drawing submittals.
Assist with resolution of geotechnical issues which arise during the construction of the IDRIS facilities.
Provide other programme support as required.

Key Duties:

Assist in the approval and permitting of the geotechnical investigation programme.
Provide oversight of and assist in the review of reports prepared under the geotechnical investigations programme.
Assist in the preparation of the Programme Management Consultant’s Geotechnical Interpretive Reports and Geotechnical Baseline Reports (as deemed applicable).
Assist in the development of conceptual and preliminary design reports.
Assist in the development of Tender Documents associated with the IDRIS contracts.
Assist in the tendering of the IDRIS contracts, including responding to questions received during the bidding process.
Conduct reviews of Technical Proposals and other Contractor submittals.
Provide assistance on other IDRIS programme components.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, minimum 15 years prior experience. The individual must have strong communication and people skills, be self-motivated/self-directed and have the willingness to take on new challenges.
Education
Bachelors Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; Master's Degree preferred. Professional registration/certification (Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, etc.) highly preferred.
Job Experience
Minimum 15 years work experience, including geotechnical investigations, deep structures design and construction troubleshooting. Prior Middle East and tunneling experience preferred but not required.
Specialized Skills
Prior experience with the analysis and design of large civil structures in rock formations of varying degrees of hardness. Knowledge of ground treatment techniques to improve stability of excavations, reduce the permeability of the ground - dewatering, fissure grouting, jet grouting etc. (1) deep trunk sewer tunnel, (2) lateral
