In order to support the ongoing growth and development of the business across the Middle East and Asia, our client is seeking to appoint to the post of Group Business Development Director. Reporting to the Group Strategy & Development Director (who is a main board director of the company), the Group Business Development Director's responsibilities will include:

• Identifying, leading and managing major business development activities so as to drive, grow, manage, plan and report top-line sales across the Middle East and Asia.

• Developing, enhancing, renewing and implementing strategies, processes and procedures that will drive commercial performance and win new business. To refocus the regional organisation on the pursuit of the largest commercial opportunities, acting as a catalyst within the region and working in a hands-on capacity to drive new business development.

• Developing and renewing the business development, sales and bid management teams, replacing poor performers if necessary. To build new organisational structures and to introduce, promote and enforce best practice.

• Acting as the senior representative of the business in region when dealing with clients. To contribute to managing relationships with customers, to act as a senior point of escalation for any issues that may arise and to promote actively our client’s solutions, products and services so that the business is positioned as the supplier of choice.

• Assuming ultimate responsibility for our client’s response to the largest commercial opportunities for which it bids within the region. This will include assuming ultimate accountability for the production of all bids, for structuring the largest deals (covering the formulation and creation of pricing, designing solutions and the negotiation of partnerships and joint ventures with third parties) and for supporting bids through the submission and negotiation phases.

• Planning activity and leading initiatives that will introduce the company into new markets or will introduce new products and services to satisfy customers’ current and future requirements.

• Assuming responsibility for other more junior personnel, including a team of bid managers. To task these people, to provide them with clearly defined and measurable objectives and to ensure they are fully aware of and comply with the company's objectives, processes and strategies. To monitor and direct their activity and to provide them with the administrative support, knowledge management and training they require.

• Creating virtual project teams as appropriate, assuming managerial responsibility in a matrix environment for a variety of sales, commercial and operational staff, including director-level personnel (sector heads, country managing directors, etc).

• Developing close working relationships with a variety of senior level stakeholders across the company internationally, including divisional, country and group managing directors and CEOs, sector heads and board directors. To work collaboratively with these people on joint initiatives and to effect change within them, especially on matters relating to business development, process and the meeting of different cultures.

• Producing and providing forecasting, budgeting and other forms of reporting to senior management as required. To achieve or exceed any set targets, KPIs, deadlines and other metrics.

• Assuming responsibility for marketing communications across the region.

The Group Business Development Director will be based at our client’s offices in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Regular international travel will be required.

The successful applicant will possess a proven and successful track record at a senior (director or executive) level within sales, business development, sales operations, corporate development or commercial management with a large, international services provider (managed services, outsourcing, oilfield services, shipping, logistics, etc). This experience will ideally have been gained in whole or in part in Asia or the Middle East and will include devising, planning and leading major business development, corporate development and other commercial programmes. Furthermore, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent commercial understanding, possess excellent communications, organisational, people-management and planning skills, and have a confident yet flexible approach to their work.
