Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The HSE Coordinator - Controls the provision of a safe and hygienic work environment for all Company and contractor personnel in the operated shipyard. Scope includes oversight and monitoring for the implementation of the companies safety procedures; audits of work practices in assigned areas, Permit To Work system; investigation and assist HSE Manager on all matters related to incidents and development of appropriate recommendations to prevent future recurrence. The aim of the HSSE Coordinator is to develop and maintain high safety standards at the ship construction facilities.
Coordinate with HSSE officers during the inspecting and auditing of the comapnies safety programs for the ship construction facility. Identifies and elevates unsafe work practices throughout the work sites, develops and recommends improvements and ensures proper implementation.
Support development, implementation, monitoring, verification, and improvement of HSSE Plan.
Participate in periodic updates of HSE Plan
Assess the HSE orientation program for promoting an incident, injury free workplace and supervising specific emergency drills for personnel in assigned area and assesses program effectiveness.
Ensure that safety equipment and facilities are kept in best working condition by monitoring preventive maintenance program and setup an efficient record keeping system.Oversee the implementation of the Permit To Work system,. Includes reviewing permits, Job Safety Analysis and ensure proper measures are taken prior to commencement of work.
Ensure assigned areas are safe for required work through work sites inspections, especially during dangerous or potentially difficult work.
Participate in incident control during emergencies in the assigned work areas. Investigate incidents and assists in recommendations for corrective actions and measures to alleviate future recurrence. Maintain records for all project incidents/emergencies and near misses.
Provide reporting to HSE Manager on all HSE related issues.
Ensure adequate supply of safety and emergency equipment and protective clothing are available at all times. Prepare requisitions for replenishment of safety material stock and recommend procurement of new equipment, as necessary. Evaluate new items to assess suitability
Investigate, as assigned, incidents of environmental pollution and participate in the control of clean-up operations using available equipment and personnel.
Responsible for the support of the comany HSE policies and programs, and implementation of specific duties and responsibilities related to work scope per the Management system documentation, policies, procedures, safety manual and other related documents.

Requirements

Minimum Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline or Science and extensive HSSE courses at university level and/or industrial training centres Certificate in Health, Safety and Environmental discipline.
Diploma in HSE (one year or more).
Familiar with ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 would be an added advantage.
8 years relevant experience in HSE, where at least 2 years is in a shipyard/ marine Industry in a similar position.
Has experience in managing people (worked as a manager for approx 5 years).
Firm and confident individual who is able to exercise good judgment on safety issues.
Dependable and possesses good leadership qualities, dynamic with ‘hands on’ attitude.
Must have excellent communication skills in English.
Must posses good communication skills with proven ability to make reports and MoM.
