Head Nurse - Delivery Room (Saudi National)

Job description / Role

Has full administrative charge and responsibility for optimal quality clinical nursing care within the available resources in the Delivery Room.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring that the highest standard of clinical care is maintained by the introduction and implementation of a systematic approach to planning and delivery of nursing care, allocating available resources and the nursing staff responsibilities appropriately. Providing adequate supervision and guidance when necessary.
- Ensures that continuity of care is maintained by the take over and hand over reports with clear communication at all times.
- Ensures ongoing review and revision of nursing policies and procedures.
- Ensures that the appropriate records of the patients progress are maintained according to the unit policies and procedures.
- Ensures that doctors orders and patient management plans are followed and that appropriate steps are taken, including immediate notification of the resident/consultant in charge or on-call, of any deterioration from the expected course of the patients condition, exercising advocacy and accountability for the patients interest at all times.
- Develops and coordinates the Quality Improvement Program within his/her area of responsibilities.
- Promotes patients education and patient care centered.
- Ensures that the Delivery Room has an appropriate staffing establishment by allocating annual leave, shifts and duties, and by coordinating and monitoring activities of all staff in the delivery of patient care.
- Assesses levels of performance, untoward incidents, accidents and staff sickness of the nursing staff in the unit and reports to the Director of Nursing as appropriate for the purpose of promotion, re-contracting or release.
- Anticipating, identifying, resolving and preventing problems and recommending changes to policies and procedures. Reports to Director of Nursing, where ongoing problems cannot be resolved.
- Maintains an up-to-date record of all drugs, IV fluids, etc., as required by the Pharmacy, and ensures that the rules and regulations governing the administration, storage and custody of scheduled drugs and narcotics are strictly observed at all times.
- Makes the necessary requisitions for replenishment of consumable stock items, instrument repairs, etc.
- Ensures that all staff know and understand and follow department policies and procedures concerning CPR, fire and safety, major disaster, etc., and are familiar with the use and functions of all the equipment of Delivery Room.
- Ensures the provision of Unit Base Orientation guidance and direction, training, and counseling for all the staff as necessary.
- Assists with planning and budgeting exercises with the Director of Nursing, and acts as Supervisor as required.
- Provide unit statistics as required, according to agreed guidelines, for statistical gathering.
- Facilitates and participates in any research projects as required.
- Acts for Director of Nursing as delegated.

Requirements

- Appropriate qualification and statutory nursing registration in the country from which recruited RM / RN.
- Post basic qualification in one of the relevant specialties.
- First-line of management courses
- Six years post-basic experience that must include: Two years experience as a Charge Nurse in the relevant specialties
