Head of IT Application Development

Job description / Role

Our client is looking for a Head of IT Application Development to drive thought leadership to the Applications team in understanding, supporting and maintaining reliable and flexible applications for the business.

The role will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Application function, including day to day operational support, application portfolio management and continuous improvement across the ERP, web platforms and business applications.

This section is comprised of groups that are charged with the analysis, development, and ongoing support for existing applications, including the ERP system of record (JD Edwards, SAP or AX Dynamics) and other custom internal development projects for the support of the projects pipeline and company initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you must have strong experience in an Agile environment OR strong ERP experience (JD Edwards). You must have outstanding coaching, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills as well as the passion and drive required to lead a team of Developers, Software Engineers, Systems Analysts and Functional Consultants.
- Plan, Lead and organize activities of section and constituent teams
- Ensure that corporate IT investments, plans, procedures and programs are met on time and within scope.
- Implementation & improvements of IT policies and procedures, both existing and new.
- Evaluation, Selection and Purchase of Software and/or Hardware.
- Review and approve Software licensing and maintenance contracts with vendors.
- Lead IT related projects, when necessary, in the capacity of IT Project Manager.
- Participate, as required, in establishment and execution of Company level IT related strategies.

Requirements

- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering.
- 15 years of direct and relevant experience within oil / gas, petrochemical or relevant industry
- 5 years of experience in Senior Supervisory position, managing multiple development teams / groups.
- Background in programming, system analysis, project management and IT strategies.
- Strong leadership and Supervisory skills, with ability to lead IT Group to projected deadlines, goals and targets
- Excellent command of English language, both written & verbal.
- Hands on knowledge on ERP Systems (preferably JD Edwards).
- Experience with project pipeline management, PMO and team build out.
- Experience of Governance, Regulatory, and Audit policies / procedures and requirements.
- Knowledge of current IT industry direction, technologies and trends
