The RoleThe RoleA new Head of Audit position has been created to oversee 15 staff in a large commercial business in Dubai. JOB CONTENT To lead and manage the Internal Audit function across the corporate and Business Units (BUs) by scheduling internal audits in the financial/operational, and information systems areas and presenting the findings to the Chief Audit & Risk Officer in order to ensure that the management is made aware of internal accounting and administrative control weaknesses, system risks and implementation gaps. STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in the development of IA policies and procedures at all levels of the Group, in line with strategic objectives and global leading practices; monitor adherence to policies and procedures and make required changes to ensure that there are clear guidelines based on what IAs are conducted. Contribute in developing the budget of the IA Department, obtain approval and allocate appropriate amounts to each individual function and ensure adherence to set targets. FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Audit Schedule Direct the development and oversee implementation of a comprehensive annual plan and charter for IA activities and coverage in the financial/operational and information systems domain, and issue periodic reports summarizing key findings Audit Liaison Provide expertise and professional advice on system/ process controls to the Department Heads at the Corporate and Bus, and plan the audit cycle based on inputs provided by them. Ensure liaison with external auditors and other consultants on professional audit standards. Periodically review IA process and procedures to ensure the quality of the IA Department in terms of methodology, people and outputs are in line with the Corporate Governance framework. Audit Review Assist in the review of changes in operation policies, systems and processes proposed by the departments across BUs, provide recommendations on possible risks and gaps to ensure that recommended operational policies, systems and processes are fool proof. Monitor amendment to audit programs, techniques and activities based on audit results, adherence to operating systems and analyse and report control weakness and business risks Evaluate impact of audit activities on risk mitigation and report appropriate recommendations Internal Controls Submit an annual Internal Control Report based on internal control self-assessment by management, IA assessments and findings from the external auditors to form the basis of the Boards annual assessment of the Groups internal control framework. Financial/ Operational Audit Monitor financial/operational audit activities of the Corporate and BUs in line with operational and management requirements, policies and procedures; with a view to assist the Chief Risk Officer in making appropriate recommendations and raising concerns to the Audit & Risk committee. Information System Audit Validate design of the management information system to ensure that the right information is being captured for strategic decision making. Review the information system audits, weakness, deficiencies and recommendations and present information system audit reports Investigation and Special Projects Facilitate ad hoc appraisals, inspections, investigation, examinations as requested by management (i.e. allegations of fraud, theft, abuse etc.) as requested by the Audit & Risk committee, and recommend control improvement. Conduct major fraud investigations and the review of area where major fraud has occurred to determine how frauds were perpetrated and make recommendations about strengthening internal controls where appropriate. PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT Lead, coach, support and provide direction to subordinate towards the achievement of strategic functional goals and objectives of the Group. Guide and motivate subordinates to enhance performance and produce quality work, and ensure that they are given opportunities for continued career development. Provide ongoing feedback to direct reports, both informally and through formal performance evaluation and appraisal reports. Ensure that team members are acquainted with the changing situation and the developments of the Group. Ensure adequate technical training for departmental staff on internal audit practices, local and global methodologies, in order to ensure efficient execution of audit assignments. |
RequirementsRequirementsEducation / Qualification Graduate with major course work in accounting or finance with a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Chartered Professional Analyst (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification Experience Minimum 20 years experience in accounting and audit of which at least 2-3 years should have been as Head of Audit Should have led a team of at least 7 members, some of whom should be at Manage and Senior Manager level Functional Skills & Specific Knowledge Should have knowledge of systems audit Should be able to participate and facilitate group meetings Should be able to lead and motivate teams Salary AED 50-55k |
