We are seeking an ambitious and dedicated Health and safety officer for our ready-mix business.
Reporting to the HSE Coordinator you will be expected use your knowledge, energy and enthusiasm to assist the Team in the functioning of the Health, Safety & Environment Management System along with the positive development of the HSE culture health and Safety.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree/Equivalent or Member of the Institute of Safety & Health/equivalent
Specialized Trainings Required (if any):
- Leadership
- ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 Internal Audit Trainings
- NEBOSH Level 2
Area of experience Required:
- Minimum 5 years as a full time HSE professional

Key responsibilities include;
- To assist in the implementation of the HSMS (Health & Safety Management System), EMS (Environment Management System), ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 certification preparation.
- To help track the HSE BU improvement plan action close outs.
- To ensure that Risk Management processes are in place at all locations and that a Risk
Register along with action plan is in place and owned by the management/supervisor/foreman including the formulation of safe working procedures (WAH, EI, etc);
- To ensure that Fire Safety Logbook is fully maintained and complied with at all sites (including routine inspections, Fire Risk Assessment, etc);
- To ensure that Accommodation and Welfare Inspections are being completed and acted upon accordingly;
- In conjunction with the appropriate managers and interested parties to ensure the timely investigation along with root cause analysis of all incidents (including dangerous occurrences) in the assigned area of scope along with the monitoring on progress with close out actions;
- To bring to the attention of the Health,Safety & Environment Coordinator any areas of concern that are not being properly addressed by the local management team;
- Maintain an awareness of and involvement in the management of high risk activities;
- Ensuring that driver and GPS monitoring and management is in place;
- Conducting VFLs;
- Compiling and Delivering toolbox talks and other trainings as required;
- Assisting the formulation of lifting plans and method statements, and monitoring the execution of complex or critical lifts;
- Ensuring that risk assessments review is carried out on a routine basis and when required following an incident or near miss;
- Testing emergency plans where required;
- Assisting the HSE Coordinator carry out routine audits of the HSMS, compiling reports along with the assisting, monitoring and follow up of close out actions;
- Assisting with the compilation of monthly reports and other data gatherings like leading and lagging indicators. Updates the database for HSE KPIs.
- Deputize the HSE Coordinator during leave/training absence
- Other tasks that maybe required relevant to your function.
