Hospital Porter

Job description / Role

The purpose of this position is to provide the daily assistance requirements of the hospital, including safely transporting patients, assisting patients` relative with their luggage to minimize the needs of the patient care personnel to perform these duties, errands for all regular, urgent and confidential documents to the area of distribution, transporting goods, radiology films, pharmaceutical, laboratory specimens, moving furniture and do offices moving. Must practice good personal hygiene and present a clean and neat appearance.

Key Job Responsibilities
-Provide safe and efficient transport of patients and goods, assisting to minimize the need for patient care personnel to perform these duties.
-Transporting patients and securing confidentiality in handling the patient medical charts.
-Transporting Laboratory specimens (including STATS), Radiology film, pharmaceuticals, and urgent documents throughout the hospital.
-Must be able to interact in a friendly and professional manner with patients, staff and visitors.
-Ensuring accurate distribution of Linens, Newspapers and Magazines in the respective areas of distribution. Pick up and collect soiled linen in a timely manner.
-Assisting in uniform issuance and linen inventories.
-Operating uniform depot. Maintaining accurate report of daily quantity and quality of uniforms received and processed by the laundry.
-To provide portering services to the hospital. Ensuring an efficient and safe furniture and office moving,
-Must practice good personal hygiene and present a clean and neat appearance.
-Other related duties.

Requirements

Knowledge
-Secondary Education.
-Understanding of relevant policies and procedures.

Skills
-Good communication and customer service skills.
-Ability to liaise in a professional and persuasive manner with staff at all levels in the organisation.
-Ability to handle confidential information in strict confidence
-Ability to work with high integrity and minimum supervision.
-Good interpersonal skills
-Maintain a professional demeanour at all times.
-A lively, energetic and strong personality with a practical "can-do" attitude
-Must be able to respond to, and follow verbal instructions in English and simple Arabic.
-Must be able to learn and consistently follow policies and procedures.
-The ability to respond to and follow instructions in English would be an asset

Experience
-Experience in patient transport, or working in a hospital environment, or work experience overseas, particularly in the Middle East, would be an asset.
