The RoleThe RolePOSITION OVERVIEW: Under direct supervision, undertakes regular technical support assignments to modify, upgrade, maintain or troubleshoot Engineering Systems (ES) software and hardware. Evaluates assigned issues, questions, small projects and problems. Selects and applies standard and non-standard ES technical support procedures and practices to complete each assignment satisfactorily. Assignments are usually well defined in terms of extent and desired results, as described in the standard ES Support Matrices. Works directly with end users at various offices and field locations both directly and indirectly (physically or in a virtual environment). May assist on special projects to meet standards, for example, in the rollout of a particular technology or collaboration system. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Analyzes and supports standard engineering and design applications, providing technical recommendations to improve utilization and troubleshooting. Has a working knowledge of the advanced ES hardware and applications; uses that knowledge to analyze and resolve questions, issues and problems for end users. References established standards and methodology to recommend regular modifications and upgrades to ES systems and to implement those recommendations for end users of advanced CAD workstations Uses knowledge of engineering and design computing requirements to assist with installation, delivery and support of specialized technical software and other systems (E.g., CAD or GIS). Maintains knowledge of current applications and technologies for engineering applications and functions; installs and implements upgrades, modifications and enhancements to assigned ES-related hardware and applications. Coordinates support services by acting as a liaison with ES software vendors (Bentley Systems, Autodesk, etc.). May assist with the integration of CAD systems and output devices such as plotters. May work with clients, subcontractors and business partners to maintain and troubleshoot shared ES systems. Assists in the migration of freestanding ES systems and entities to the Parsons application delivery system (ParStream™). May demonstrate or train end users in standard use of ES tools. Provides ongoing support for freestanding ES engineering, design and collaboration systems as assigned. |
RequirementsRequirementsPREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 2-year degree or 4-year degree in Computer Science, information systems, engineering or related technical discipline, with experience in both engineering and IT. 2-4 years of progressive experience working in one or more of the following areas: engineering, design, architecture, application systems (E.g., ProjectWise™, CAD). Certifications: Recommended: Vendor certifications (E.g, Autodesk, Bentley, Intergraph and ESRI). Microsoft Windows Operating systems (E.g., Microsoft Certified Engineer), SQL or similar certifications. SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Knowledge of advanced computer hardware, such as 2D and 3D workstations utilized for engineering and design. Working knowledge of computer-aided engineering, tools and methodology. General knowledge of engineering and design applications such as AutoCAD, Microstation, ProjectWise™. A familiarity with software deployment tools such as ParStream™. Problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a technical ES team. Written and oral communication skills appropriate for the position, including the ability to speak well in basic professional situations (may include communication via telephone or in person). Ability to write basic documents (may include email or memos). Typically communicates with a limited group of individuals (employees and some managers) throughout the organization and may occasionally communicate with those outside of the organization (i.e. clients, vendors). |
