Description

As a team member of GM IT, the Infrastructure Engineer is technical knowledge for an application domain and the systems that support it. Utilizing knowledge of the applications and technical expertise, the Infrastructure Engineer is involved in all aspects of designing, delivering and operating a solution; from providing and analyzing system requirements, providing high level estimation of IT solutions for new and/or enhanced GM services, to active participation in assigned IT projects from start through to sustain operations. Work involves a great deal of creativity and initiative as well as a very high level of independent judgment.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Infrastructure Engineer will work closely with all IT stakeholders to perform the following tasks using a combination of solid systems development practices, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and teamwork techniques:
•Ensures implementation of hardware meets GM’s technology infrastructure design and architecture.
•Ensure suppliers keep IT computer platform up to date, monitored, and meeting all GM cornerstone compliance requirements.
•Management and oversight of Project Schedules and Deliverables
•Management and oversight of IT compute platform infrastructure change requests
•Support the development and testing environments hardware capacity requirements
•Use ongoing capacity analytical reporting and projections/forecasting models to proactively support Business initiatives.    
•Maintain workload profiles for all critical applications.
•Manage performance monitoring and capacity planning tools.
•Assist in developing solutions to unusual and difficult problems
•Manage supplier performance SLA's.
•Working closely with supplier and GM IT technical teams
•Work with development teams, business users, testing teams, and operations teams to devise and execute application and infrastructure transition to production plans
•Supports timely introduction of new features / fixes to support production applications and infrastructure
•Working across IT and the business, develop playbooks for failover, business continuity and disaster recovery
•Managing supplier efforts for restoring system functionality outages
•Conducting root cause analysis and managing remediation implementation
•Manage Problem Management processes
•Manage Service Level Availability
•Management of a cross-functional, multi-vendor, multi-discipline IT program.
•Staying current on modern and emerging telematics technologies: wireless, embedded, and distributed computing systems.
•Providing detailed technical and scientific analyses on products, technologies and methods.
•Document and provide guidance on architecture and standards
•Support development of Enterprise Architecture (GM and GM), including Enterprise-Wide Technical Architecture
•Participate in GM architecture activities
•Ensure compliance with IT Standards process
•Participates in the selection of new employees
•Trains, develops and evaluates employees
•Supervises the complete system implementation including design, flow charts, programming and testing
•Reports to management on progress developments
•Assists and advises subordinates in contacts with users on large or complex systems
•Regular contact with others outside the work group
•Maintains current knowledge of computer systems and recommends improvements

Requirements

Qualifications
•Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with mid-range server administration, distributed technical systems project management, or managing a complex IT infrastructure.
•Must have at least 2 years of experience with Unix OS and mid-range Sun server platforms.
•Project and technical leadership experience.
•Strong familiarity with analysis, planning and management reporting functions.
•Well-developed oral and written communications skills.
•Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
•Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
•Experience with IT outsourcing and offshore development models
•Experience developing and delivering highly available and complex systems
•A solid mix of technical, project management and business skills
•High level of analytical ability, troubleshooting and root cause analysis
•Familiarity with information systems and infrastructure in support of business processes
•Knowledge, understanding and ability to stay current with IT industry trends, directions and market experience

Basic Required
•Advanced degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
•Experience in developing automotive/vehicle telematics server application, multimedia application and telematics gateway following industry standard
•Experience in developing push, presence and PoC application for SMS or IMS infrastructure
•Experience with Oracle DBMS systems
•Experience in managing complex infrastructure and systems
•Experience with Supplier Management in an outsourced environment
•Experience with production application support
•Track record of successfully delivering strategic IT programs / projects / strategies

Basic Preferred
•Highly developed knowledge of operating systems, hardware and system management technologies, industry standards, and security procedures
•High level of sound logic and analytical ability where problems are unusual and extremely difficult
•Highly developed oral and written communications skills
•High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees and elicit work output
•Well-developed presentation skills
•Familiarity with telecommunications technology, including H.323, SS7, SIP, VOIP
•Familiarity with enterprise data systems, including RDBMS, data warehousing,
•Experience developing and delivering highly available and complex systems
•Fluent in both English and Arabic with the ability to speak and write in both languages
•Experience with working in the Middle East
