Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

• Administers and defines the security framework necessary to ensure compliance with all IT security operations, policies and procedures; oversees the correction of all security compliance issues
• Assists with analysis and interpretation of trends and regulatory changes; assists with the identification of necessary policy modifications
• Assesses program security risks to develop appropriate security strategies
• Ensures the proper operation and maintenance of special security programs
• Provides technical assistance with the set-up, deployment and ongoing support of systems that support information security including virus detection systems, firewall content filtering systems and software license management systems
• Evaluates information system bug reports, security exploit reports, and other information security notices issued by information system vendors, government agencies, universities, professional associations, and other organizations, and as needed, makes recommendations to IT management for suggested precautionary measures
• Ensures continual compliance with Security Standards and Governance models
• Evaluates Security software and provides recommendations to the business to better utilize/retool as appropriate
• Initiates information security standards in line with ISO27001 controls
• Runs periodic vulnerability identification software packages and related tools to immediately highlight errors in systems configuration, the need for the application of fixes and patches, and other security related changes
• Interprets information security policies, standards, and other requirements as they relate to a specific internal information system, and assists with the implementation of these and other information security requirements
• Conducts selected tests of information security measures in accordance with specific instructions provided by the IT Director / CTO.
• Monitors and audits Information Systems for compliance with established company policies, procedures, and standards
• Participates in training for staff and faculty on security policies and best practices
• Conducts regular internal IT audits as directed by the Internal Audit plan
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field by engaging in professional development activities
• Contributes to the development of the organization by monitoring programs and identifying areas for improvement; by observing and implementing system-wide policies and procedures and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events
• Travels to other locations to attend meetings, workshops and conferences as required
• Develops an awareness of and respect for the customs and cultures
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

• Experience in running security operations environments
• Experience in preparing IT audits
• Experience in coordinating firewall changes, IDS/IPS systems, SIEM solutions and cryptography systems and documenting such changes
• Working knowledge of Security Incident Response
• Capable of chairing various forums and engaging development teams to drive programs to completion
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization
• Highly developed organizational, analytical, presentation and problem solving skills are required
• The ability to work effectively as a team member in a multi-cultural environment
• A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to develop and improve new and current skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization
