The Role


The Role


Primary responsibilities

Installing, configuring, monitoring and maintaining computer systems.

Troubleshooting computer system problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults.

Answer staff questions in person and via phone on all company supported applications.

Serve as liaison between staff, the IT department and external vendor to resolve issues.

Providing support, including procedural, documentation.

Following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system.

Maintaining the support log database.

Responsible for the purchasing of new IT asset (Hardware and Software).

Responsible for updating the IT inventory database.

Additional responsibilities

Provide on-the-job training to new department staff members.

Provide computer orientation to new company staff.

Testing and evaluating new technology.

Good problem solving skills; ability to visualize a problem or situation and think abstractly to solve it.
Ability to handle constantly changing flow of traffic; remain productive during slow times, be able to multitask effectively during busy times, exercise patience and professionalism during stressful situations.
Creativity. Ability to think around problems and come up with creative solutions is helpful.
Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision.
Working knowledge of common operating systems and software applications.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

PREFERRED PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES OR COMPETENCIES:
The personal attributes needed are:

Should be a good team player.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Friendly presence and helpful attitude; good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.

Ability to provide technical support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanour, previous customer service experience strongly desired.

Some experience in technical support needed.

FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:
Bachelor in Computer science or related field from a reputable institute or equivalent relevant experience.

Technical Knowledge:

Essential:
Windows XP and 2003.
Office 2003.
Helpdesk tools.
Wireless configuration.

Desirable:
Windows 2008.
Office 2007
Exchange 2003/2007.
Cisco knowledge.
IT Security knowledge.
