Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Responsible in planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating Infection Control program.
• Visit wards regularly and discuss procedures with staff.
• Visit laboratory regularly or on a daily basis.
• Keep and maintain records.
• Stays current with industry literature and best practices
• Instruct nurses and other grades of staff in the practice of infection control.
• Identify as promptly as possible infection hazards in patients, staff or equipment.
• Compile records of infected patients from ward notification, case notes, laboratory reports and information collected in routine visits and discussions.
• Tracks and trends infection rates. Performs root cause analyses to assist with continuous process improvement. Collaborates with the Quality Control Manager in identifying clinical process improvement opportunities and the development of action plans.
• Ensure that there are adequate facilities for isolating patients.
• Introduce the necessary measure to prevent the spread of infection or organisms highly resistant to antibiotics.
• Check by inspection that the infection control and aseptic procedures are being carried out in accordance with hospital policy.
• Liaise between laboratory and ward staff, informing heads of department and giving advice on infection control program.
• Collaborate with occupational health staff in maintaining records of infection in medical, nursing, catering, domestic and other grades of staff.
• Ensure clearance specimens are taken before infected staff return to duty.
• Inform relevant authorities concerned when infected patients are discharged from hospital or transferred elsewhere.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

Qualification:

Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or equivalent or 3 years study duration from accredited program.
Valid/Current National License.
BLS

Experience:
At least 6 years clinical experience in an appropriate and relevant healthcare settings post qualification and
At least 2 year in Senior Charge Nurse position
