Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The primary mission of the position is to conduct fire and life safety inspections of Sidras Campus to ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes and to supervise, monitor, and control Sidras safety program. The incumbent evaluates (through on-site inspections) the Fire Fighting and Fire Protection Systems status and their performance, originates and recommends corrective action if needed, and ensures compliance with all applicable codes and standards. He/ She participates in designing programs to prevent and reduce fire safety incidents.

The role holder drives process improvements in inspection activities; assists the management in developing fire safety policies & procedures and updating them as necessary and provides day-to-day supervision to professional and technical level staff. The role holder is responsible to encourage fire safety commitment and active involvement from Sidras employees and contractors to meet the objectives of the Sidras Safety Department. He/she understands national and international safety standards, NFPA 101 Life Safety Codes, applicable regulatory codes and requirements.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Conducts field inspections, assessments and reviews as needed and devises enforcement actions to bring non-compliant instances into compliance.
- Conducts fire safety compliance investigations for proper operation and maintenance to ensure compliance of international standards.
- Collects, compiles and communicates data and findings and recommends courses of action.
- Analyzes and interprets results, recommends appropriate corrective actions, communicates results and follows up on issues or concerns until completion.
- Responsible for implementing fire safety plans and meeting fire safety goals and objectives to continuously improve the overall Sidra safety performance.
- Coordinates fire plans depicting evacuation routes and actions.
- Recommends changes (if needed) to existing fire protection and prevention measures, procedures and techniques unique to the facility.
- Inspects various types of structures, equipment and storage areas, warehouses, fuel storage, welding areas, maintenance facilities, power generating plants, kitchens, for life threatening and potentially hazardous violations.
- Identifies fire hazards ranging from a moderate to high degree of fire expectancy, life safety and potential severity.
- Prepares reports pertaining to inspection data, monitoring results, and enforcement actions.
- Performs life cycle inspection and accountability of fire extinguishers and portable egress lighting devices and other equipment on the installation.
- Updates databases with relevant inspection-related information, develops tables, graphics, figures of findings.
- Completes and enters a variety of forms, logs, and reports detailing test results based on operating procedures.
- Assists with maintaining a clean and safe working environment;
- Ensures compliance with applicable international and local regulations, codes, standards, other requirements of technical manuals
- Assists in conducting site investigations for all fire incidents,
- Coordinates testing and maintenance of automatic fire alarm, suppression systems and sprinkler systems to determine operating conditions and system adequacy.
- Provides detailed information on inspections accomplished, the hazardous conditions found, corrective action taken and compliance with fire prevention measures.
- Ensures the handling, storage and processing of flammable, combustible and hazardous materials meets all Fire & Life Safety measures as applicable through manufacturers recommendations, model codes and standards.
- Conducts briefings on fire prevention requirements, emergency egress procedures and fire extinguishers for technicians and other staff.
- Adheres to Sidras standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in the area of Fire Science or Fire Administration or Environmental Health Science/Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety or related degree
- 5+ years' progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in fire and life safety education, prevention and emergency response work.
- Wide knowledge of fire, suppression systems operations, fire prevention, principles, methods and practices
- Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Risk Assessment
- Wide experience in NFPA
- Knowledge of fire code rules, regulations and laws
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of fire safety and inspection techniques
- Knowledge of mechanical, chemical and related characteristics of a wide variety of flammable, explosive and similar properties.
