Working under the direction of the Intellectual Property (IP) Manager, the IP Officer acts as a resource to identify and advise on issues related to IP, commercialization and and research-related output within the corporation. The incumbent will work closely with Principal Investigators, research teams and other corporate and external stakeholders to provide expert advice, guidance, and support regarding IP, commercialization, patents and other related issues.

The incumbent will work closely with the corporation's Legal Affairs Department to ensure complete alignment with Qatari law and corporate policies.The IP Officer will conduct IP-related research and searches, using various databases (patent and open literature) and conduct IP-related analysis (patentability, landscapes, clearance, business/competitive, licensing, etc.).The incumbent will also serve as a resource on corporate and national IP policy by staying informed about new and emerging IP-related issues as well as related developments in Qatari law and corporate policy.

Specific Responsibilities:
- Act as a resource to Principal Investigators and research teams by providing advice and support for IP-related matters
- Assist staff with respect to the development and follow-up of research projects, proof of concept inventions and ideas that have potential IP
- Develop and conduct training for corporation staff in the salient points of IP policy and matters relating to IP development and protection
- Assist in drafting and revising corporate IP policies, procedures and guidelines and act as a corporate resource for initiatives relating to IP policy
- Conduct legal research in the area of intellectual property and competition law and work closely with Legal Affairs to ensure alignment with Qatari law and corporate policies
- Identify and provide guidance on licensing opportunities
- Provide support to the IP Manager in drafting and filing patent applications
- Develops and maintains a database of currently-held patents
- Conduct IP-related analysis and searches, including, but not limited to:Competitive landscape analysis, Novelty searches and Patent ability analysis, IP Risk analysis and mitigation analysis, Technology and IP gap identification
- Assist the IP Manager in identifying and facilitating the commercialization of IP
- Draft regular and adhoc reports, tables, and presentations as requested and in accordance with an annual work plan
- Attend and report on meetings of external partners

Requirements

- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Science, Biomedical Engineering or related field
- At least three years experience relevant to the duties of the role
- English (Read/Write/Speak): Essential. Arabic (Read/Write/Speak): Preferred.
- Computer Skills: Competent, effective and timely use of e-mail and other communication systems
- Research and Analysis: Demonstrated proficiency in conducting searches in various databases (patent and open literature) and conducting IP-related analysis (patentability, landscapes, clearance, business/competitive, licensing, etc.)
