Intelligent Traffic Systems Engineer

Job description / Role

- Responsible for managing the planning, design, operations and implementation of ITS works.
- Responsible for evaluating telecommunications plans and systems, including both wired and wireless components.
- Develop and manage ITS development, including database development, systems analysis, engineering analysis, testing, documentation, and communications systems operations and support.
- Overseeing review, procurement, installation, testing and acceptance of ITS systems.
- Support staff to ensure that their projects comply with the relevant requirements of the project specifications.
- Research and recommend new construction techniques and materials.

Requirements

Mandatory requirements:
- University degree from a recognized university in engineering (civil, electrical, telecommunications, computer science or similar)
- Proficient in English, written and spoken.

Desirable requirement:
- Arabic language skills.
- A minimum of 10 years experience with at least 5 years in construction of roads and infrastructure that includes ITS.
- Develops ITS procedures to meet short- and long-term objectives.
- Performs mathematical and statistical calculations and cost analysis.
- Comprehends and makes inferences from specifications to understand system, operations, and equipment expectations and tolerances.
- Ensures ITS equipment complies with prescribed standards and regulations, principles, practices and methods of transportation systems, planning, engineering, operations, maintenance and management.
- Identify possible defects and faults of ITS equipment and recommend effective corrective measures.
- Identify the hazards and precautionary methods required to operate in a safe manner while engaged in operations peculiar to ITS work.
- Evaluate system problems and direct engineers in taking corrective action.
- Read and understand complex specifications, schematics and manuals.
- Give advice to peers and engineers in work procedures, safety practices, technical aspects, and related requirements for ITS works.
- Supply traffic signal timing and operation information as required.
- Be flexible while experimenting with solutions to traffic control problems.
- Knowledge of quality standards, applicable codes and laws.
- Working knowledge of software packages such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
- GCC countries experience is desirable.
- Team player, cooperative with other staff with open sharing of information and knowledge.
- Ability to prioritize own time and manage tasks.
- Review Contractor submittals such as method statements and materials.
- Perform regular checks of material delivered to the project for conformance with the approved source or supplier.
- Experience interacting with and giving presentations to high-level public officials, and participation in recognized traffic engineering committees or associations is highly desirable.
