The Role


Atkins is one of the world's leading rail engineers. Its rail business is the largest in its field in Europe. We undertake projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction management. Our engineers are skilled in the design of permanent way (track form and alignment), bridges and tunnels, passenger stations, signalling, telecoms, freight terminals, maintenance and support facilities, and embankments and cuttings as well as the associated MEP systems.
An opportunity has arisen in our Dubai Business for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join this expanding team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervision of a team of mechanical engineers and CAD draftsmen
• Set and maintain mechanical design standards
• Review, comment and approval of mechanical design work
• Mentoring and training of mechanical engineering staff
• Coordination with other MEP disciplines, Architecture, Structures and Civil engineering
• Coordination with other design disciplines including Manage all aspects of Mechanical design execution and delivery from bidding through to project close-out
• Assistance in the development of design strategies and plans, including the implementation of new design tools
• The research of information and data, and corroboration of facts required for the resolution of design problems
• Client liaison and attendance at client meetings
• Preparation and delivery of presentations
• Maintaining Quality and H&S procedures
• Compilation of project specific documentations including Design reports, Particular and general specifications, Health and Safety Plans, and Risk assessments
• Supporting all phases of tendering for internal and external clients.

• Has prior experience in a similar role within the rail industry
• Ideally has a background in both consultancy and contracting engineering
• Proven track record in field of Building Services / Built Environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in various environments, e.g. Public, Client, Consultants, Contractors, Colleagues, etc
• Ability to manage and supervise staff
• The ability to keep cool under pressure and tight deadlines
• Able to lead and motivate team
• Ability to work effectively with people having varied cultural background
• Good problem solver
• Understanding of CFD fire modelling
• Understanding of CFD for air distribution
• Understanding of railway tunnel ventilation systems
• Understanding of SES modelling
• Has practical application skills
• Able to undertake short duration overseas trips
• Hard working and flexible as a team player, who has attention to detail, is reliable, shows initiative and is proactive
• A reliable and responsible attitude and a keenness to take on responsibility
• Good MS Office skills
