Description and Desired Qualifications

CH2M HILL Lead Power Generation Engineer - Abu Dhabi, UAE

Job Purpose:

To oversee, manage, review and monitor all work associated with the Power Generation facilities performed as part of the Common Seawater Supply Project (CSSP). The bulk of the work will be performed by FEED and EPC Contractors so primary purpose of role is to manage the work of the Contractors and ensure the objectives of the project are achieved. Role will also include leading other Engineers and Designers as may be needed in performance of the work. Support and work with the Seawater Treatment Plant Lead Engineer to coordinate the power generation facility into the overall plant.

The project involves the design and construction of an ultimate 500 MW dual fuel simple cycle/combined cycle power plant to support the CSSP Project.

Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

• Lead a team of Engineers and Designers as necessary to perform the work;
• Ensure effective communications and co-ordination between all team members and all other disciplines, to ensure mutual awareness of requirements and sharing of information and common resources;
• Monitor overall productivity and efficiency of the project, forecast trends and anticipate potential problems and difficulties meeting milestones or budget for the power generation facilities, coordinate with project team including all disciplines to resolve problems;
• Implement and maintain productivity targets for the team members, including monitoring of overtime and budgeted man hours;
• Conduct routine meetings with team members to monitor the projects' performance and assess their performance;
• Prepare estimates of required man hours along with supporting documentation for activities and or any change orders as appropriate;
• Implement staffing development plans and assign staff to specific project activities;
• Identify additional project staff needs and coordinate with the appropriate departments to resource the needs as appropriate; support and enhance the technical expertise of team members to suit the project needs, perform evaluations of team members.
• Perform and or coordinate all technical reviews of Contractor submitted deliverables to ensure project scope and objectives are met. Delegate review responsibilities to subject matter experts as necessary. Coordinate, review, and consolidate all review comments.
• Endorse all deliverables produced by FEED and EPC contractors for the power generation facilities.
• Review, provide inputs/comments on other discipline drawings and documents;
• Respond to technical queries during the Contractor tender periods. Review and Input during the tender evaluation for the selection of FEED & EPC Contractors.
• Active participation in the various design reviews, workshops (HAZOP, 3D modeling, etc) and optimization studies.
• Provide clarifications, technical inputs for the Contractor queries & requests.
• Liaise with the COMPANY and provide Operation and Maintenance related inputs to the Contractor.
• Provide review and inputs to resolve the technical issue, and change orders raised by the Contractor.
• Ensure the application of correct standards in the design and development of Project deliverables.
• Ensure effective communication and co-ordination with other peers, all disciplines, and project management team.
• Forecast trends anticipate potential problems and difficulties meeting milestones or budget.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Job Requirements/Qualifications/Experience:

A Bachelor's degree or post graduate in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in power plants;

15+ years of total experience in professional engineering, involving design, planning, checking, general management and supervisory responsibility in the field of power generation;

Must have worked at least 3 years as Senior Engineer, leading or supervising a project team of engineers & designers;

Proven track record with Engineering Consultants in similar position on design and engineering of Power projects with a strong background and knowledge on Gas based Simple cycle / Combined cycle Power Plants with knowledge on GTGs, HRSG and STG Equipment.

Experience in reviewing Key Deliverables prepared by mechanical team or produced by other work-share offices or by subcontractors;

Demonstrated engineering competence, interpersonal / team building skills & leadership skills;

Thorough knowledge of industry practices, codes and standards applicable to mechanical engineering. Working knowledge in various areas of mechanical engineering, such as static equipment, rotating equipment, pump stations, pipeline systems, vendor packages, lifting equipment and power generation systems;

Knowledge regarding typical mechanical engineering industry software and MS Office Suite, etc.;

Basic knowledge of AutoCAD;

Should have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) essential for Client, Interdisciplinary and Vendor coordination, and coordination with other work-share offices or contractors.
