The Role


The Role


The Middle East and Pakistan Legal Team comprises a team of four lawyers and two paralegals who support the E&P Middle East and Pakistan SPU. This role has been created in Jordan following the acquisition of the Risha Concession.The ME&P SPU is headquartered in Abu Dhabi and comprises assets and operations in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Pakistan, Oman and Jordan. The Jordan operations started after BP was awarded the right to explore, appraise and develop the “Risha Field” following a recent successful bid for a Concession Agreement in Jordan and is currently in a “start-up” phase.

The Oman operations started when BP was awarded the right to appraise and develop two “tight gas” fields following the recent successful bid for a Production Sharing Contract in Oman. The exploration and appraisal phase is now. The Abu Dhabi assets cover BP’s interests as a key shareholder in three extremely material oil and gas businesses. The Sharjah assets are late life gas fields operated by BP in the Emirate of Sharjah which also supply gas to the Northern Emirates. The Pakistan assets comprise mature oil and gas fields in the Badin area as well as offshore exploration potential.

The Oman and Sharjah assets are supported by a lawyer based in Oman while the Pakistan assets are supported by two lawyers and one paralegal based in Karachi as well as project support from the Abu Dhabi based team. Abu Dhabi is supported by the legal manger based in
country.

Qualifications to practice law with at least 5 years qualification experience.
• Experience in handling corporate and contractual joint ventures and transactions.
• Good client counselling experience with negotiation and transactional abilities.
• A proven record of commercial awareness with high-quality contribution to business strategy and delivery.
•Knowledge of the oil industry’s operations and interrelationships.
• Drive, commitment, a bias for action and a preparedness to collaborate and innovate.
• The ability to focus and direct the efforts of internal and external legal resources to provide critical legal support to the Jordan operations.
• The ability to work with BP management to advise on important legal aspects of operations and transactions.
