Legal Counsel, Private Bank - UAE

Key Roles & Responsibilities

* Responsible for carrying out and managing flow legal work for the Private Bank teams in UAE and DIFC, including advising on cross-border issues, client complaints, distribution of banking, wealth management and Islamic products and drafting and reviewing bank policies and procedures, client and product documentation, contracts and marketing material.

* Responsible for managing, implementing and working on special Private Bank and Wealth Management projects, collaborating with Legal & Compliance teams across the different Private Bank markets globally on specific country issues, including investment suitability, Islamic products, distribution of market commentary and research, document standardisation, implementation of digital solutions, cross-border governance issues and rules of engagement and setting up new advice and booking centres.

* The attorney will work closely with the Consumer Bank legal and compliance teams in UAE, the Private Bank compliance team in UAE, country/regional/group legal colleagues, compliance and control functions, internal business clients, Wholesale Bank and Consumer Bank to effectively manage business initiatives and special projects.

* Responsible for supervising, coordinating and strategising with external legal counsel in connection with special projects and transactions.

Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

* Educational background to degree level/post-graduate & professional studies as necessary to fulfill this role.

* Qualified Lawyer with strong and relevant years post qualification experience

* Experience in financial services in the UAE and DIFC, preferably in the offshore private banking and wealth management industry

* Understanding of the key features of relevant laws and regulations in the areas of responsibility, i.e.

- private banking
- consumer banking
- wealth management products
- Islamic products.

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to complete tasks in timely manner.

* Sound working knowledge of MS Office suite.

* Exemplary integrity, ethics, independence and resilience

* Strong analytical and innovative legal skills.

* Strong drafting and communication skills

* Good judgment.

* Good inter-personal skills.

* An inquisitive approach to practices, procedures and specific transactions.

* Effective communicator and team player.
