Job Description

Job Objective

The Legal Counsel shall assist the General Counsel in matters related to legal activities, contracts, agreements, corporate governance, compliance, business risks, litigation, engaging the external law firms, consultants, etc.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

- Assist the General Counsel in development, implementation and assessment of company-wide legal strategy in the areas of corporate governance, contracts, operational and business development.

- Assist and support the General Counsel and work independently with other Departments in assessment and management of legal issues in support of various corporate, business or operational matters.

- Assess business risks and legal consequences of actual and contemplated corporate actions and decisions

- Assist the General Counsel in assessing and advising senior managers about requirements and laws with potential legal obligations relevant to the company's operations, reputation, and strategic objectives.

- Review, draft and assess complex agreements

- Assist the General Counsel in reviewing legal documents.

- Assist in negotiations (. deals and settlements) with regards to legal advice and support.

- Provide legal advice and support on personnel matters, including, but not limited to employee grievances and claims.

- Develop and make suggestions for the Legal policies and procedures.

Requirements

Skills
Qualifications:

- Legal qualifications which are recognized in the State of Qatar.
- Post Graduate Degree in Law will be preferred
- Professional certification from relevant institutions will be an added advantage

Experience:
- Minimum 6 years of solid experience with reputable law firms.

Job-Specific Skills:
- Fluent in English and Arabic
- Ability to effectively organize and present information to other departments.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of contacts including regulatory agencies, law firms, lawyers, clients and business associates.
- Must be able to do multi-tasking and meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong commercial contracts and corporate transactional experience including: drafting, reviewing, negotiating, revising and advising on a variety of sophisticated and complex transactions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to relate and work well with people of many cultures, disciplines, and levels of experience

Education
Legal qualifications which are recognized in the State of Qatar. -

About the Company

Qatar District Cooling Company, known as Qatar Cool, is a private sector joint venture company owned 51% by United Development Company (UDC), 44% by National District Cooling Company (Tabreed) and 5% by other private Qatari investors. Qatar Cool’s aim is to provide efficient district cooling solutions and services for commercial and residential projects in Qatar. Their district cooling operations in the West Bay area of Doha – consisting of two plants covering 10 square kilometres – is currently supplying over 67,000 refrigerating tons of cooling, serving more than 45 towers used for residential, commercial and recreational purposes. The capacity of both plants is enough to supply about two million square meters of air conditioned area. Qatar Cool is also commissioned to provide district cooling for the Pearl Qatar. District Cooling is an important feature in the Pearl's advanced infrastructure. It will be available through the island with a requirement of 130,000 tons of refrigeration when fully occupied. To supply this demand, construction of Qatar Cool district cooling on the island has already begun and will be operational in phases.
