Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The role will be to support the Solutions Structuring Team within Transactional Banking in the bank to the Middle East, Pakistan and North Africa segments. This team focuses on bespoke structures for clients based on underlying Trade or Investment flow.

This role reports to the Head of Legal MENAP and will be based in Dubai.
* Laws and regulations must be interpreted and applied constructively so as to facilitate business but not so as to materially weaken the position of the Bank
* Many issues which arise in the course of drafting or negotiating documentation are not legal issues but involve aspects of credit, market, event or operational risk. The nature of these risks should also be appreciated and highlighted
* Negotiation of documentation often requires a judgement decision in which a balance must be struck between the interests of doing business and of protecting the Bank. Even though the Legal Counsel does not make this decision, he/she must be able to make a meaningful recommendation and to provide the decision-maker with sufficient information in order to make an informed decision
* The Legal Counsel must be able to adapt his/her approach to a range of legal systems that may differ considerably from the system he/she was trained in

Requirements

* Degree in Law, ideally Commonwealth or Middle East qualified lawyer, with strong trade finance and lending experience.
* Between 6 - 10 Yrs of relevant experience, with Banking experience.
* Commonwealth or Middle East qualified lawyer, with strong trade finance and lending experience. An understanding of the key features of Middle East relevant laws and regulations would be useful. The candidate should independent, tenacious, robust and resilient.
* Provide guidance to Transaction Banking and internal clients, including the various documentation units (confirmations, master agreements, etc), on acceptable amendments to approved standard form documentation and review and approve any non-standard documents or material departures from approved standard form documentation in particular cases.
