Legal Manager - Office of General Counsel (OGC)

The in-house legal team of the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Middle East Network advises partners and staff on legal matters arising in the internal and external business of PwC. The team provides legal support to the business throughout the Middle East Region, including the UAE, KSA, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Libya and Oman.

We are looking to hire a well qualified and experienced mid level lawyer (2-5 years post qualification experience) to assist in the provision of legal support to the business generally, across the Middle East, but primarily in the UAE, KSA, Qatar and Kuwait. The role will be based out of our office in Dubai.

Responsibilities

The work will involve the following:

Providing , tendering, contracting and negotiation support, working closely with the relevant business teams and dealing with a range of clients across all sectors including both public and private sectors. Our client base is rich and varied and ranges from clients across governments and the wider public sectors, large international companies and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs);
Assisting with regulatory compliance and company secretarial matters for the PwC businesses throughout the ME region; and the provision of litigation support from time to time, including liaising with external lawyers.

Requirements

we are looking for someone with a strong general knowledge of drafting and negotiating contracts, company secretarial requirements and an ability to be involved in litigation matters in the ME region.

The candidate should be fluent in English (both spoken and written), as well as having excellent communication skills, and capable of leading and influencing negotiations.

As well as daily interaction with business staff at all levels, there will be need to work closely with other members of the PwC in-house legal team and with PwC’s Risk and Quality teams, and of course our clients.

Technical skills

Detailed knowledge of the laws of one or more GCC member states and/or English Law, approx 2 years post qualification experience (2-5 PQE), ideally with time spent working in-house with a large professional or IT services firm.
Fluent in Arabic and English (both spoken and written).
Experience in dealing with regulators and the ministries of one or more GCC member states.
Ability to provide litigation support using sound judgement.
Confident in dealing with the full range of commercial contracts (often on client specified terms) from consultancy services contracts, through collaboration agreements, NDAs, teaming agreements, engagement letters and service delivery contracts. Actively manage client negotiations to ensure that the firm’s best interests are served.
Full appreciation of the commercial and business drivers behind an agreement.
Sound, confident judgement and well developed influencing skills.
