The RoleThe RoleSENIOR LEGAL COUNSEL (PROJECTS) Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) wishes to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel with special experience in projects. The position is based in Qatar and reports functionally to the company’s Legal Advisor for Projects who reports directly to the CEO. The position is in the Legal Department but to serve the projects team. 1. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB Assists the company’s Legal Advisor for projects and the Legal Manager in all matters related to QAPCO projects. Providing legal advice and support to QAPCO projects team. Working with QAPCO project team to structure and negotiate individual deals. 2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES • Performs activities related to QAPCO projects on various legal transactions and provide legal assistance to the Legal Advisor. • Prepares draft contracts and agreements required for Company projects and reviews contracts and agreements and submits recommendations. • Prepares periodic progress reports on the projects’ activities and submits the same to the Legal Advisor for approval. • Identifying risks and providing commercially minded legal solutions. Supporting project financing including reviewing and advising on project finance documentation. • Ensure all major contracts and other arrangements are negotiated within an acceptable legal framework. • Providing legal due diligence. • Co-coordinating work of external legal firms appointed to assist in QAPCO projects and managing their performance. • Managing day to day legal affairs of the projects. 3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • Bachelor / Master Degree in Law from a recognized university. • 09 years’ experience in legal work and insurance in industrial companies, in which at least 4 years should be in projects in the petrochemicals or energy sectors. • Strong legal knowledge of project execution and joint venture transactions. • Experience in participating in transactions/deal processes from inception through closure • Fluency in both written and spoken English & Arabic. • Computer Literate. 4. About the CompanyAbout the CompanyQAPCO was established in 1974 as a joint multinational venture to utilise the associated and non-associated Ethane gas from petroleum production in line with the industrialization plan of the State Qatar. it is one of the Companies located in the Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC), producing fertilizers, steel, refined petroleum products and natural gas liquids. QAPCO plant is situated on the seacoast with jetty facilities and exports its entire range of products worldwide. QAPCO commenced commercial production in 1981 and within a short time, was well-established in the global market due to its quality and reliability. To pursue leadership, continuous improvement, process and system orientation, involvement of the people and measurement of performance in support of our journey to achieve excellence of performance, we have re-designed our Quality Management System to comply with the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 standard, implemented it in our practice and achieved the official certification to its requirements by beginning of the year 2002. The main products of the company are Ethylene and LDPE. Solid sulphur is generated as a by-product in the process. The required feedstock, Ethane gas, is supplied by the state-owned Qatar Petroleum (QP) for the production of Ethylene, a significant part of which is then used in the production of various grades of LDPE, marketed under the ‘LOTRENE’ brand name. QAPCO built its vision on a solid foundation of state-of-the-art technology, which will make possible a succession of new generation products. Our manufacturing facilities consist of an Ethylene plant with a designed annual capacity of 525,000 MT, two LDPE plants with a total annual capacity of 360,000 MT and a Sulphur plant with an annual rated capacity of 70,000 MT besides the self-sufficient utilities, plants and other offsite and auxiliary facilities. The capacity of both Ethylene and LDPE plants increased to these levels effective from mid-1996 as a result of an expansion project undertaken by the Company during 1993-’95. |
