The Role


The Role


Job Purpose:

The overall purpose of this position is to ensure the safe production of live food for the zoos animal collection the appropriate quantity and quality based on species specific requirements.

Key Tasks and Duties:

Supervise staff at the level designated by senior management.

Develop and mentor progress of UAE National staff.

Prepare yearly work plans, objectives and assign responsibilities within the assigned live food area.

Promote and enforce company guidelines, policies and standards.

Maintain and oversee expansion of live food colonies including management of animal husbandry, genotyping and phenotyping.

Process diet changes as and when necessary, seeking all approvals and taking into consideration logistics of implementation.

Ensure the safe and proper
handling/processing of live food, biosecurity, health and safety procedures and any other relevant topics.

Liaise with Animal Nutrition Supervisor and other relevant partners to process live food material purchase requests to insure acquisition of requirements.

Schedule, participate and assign workload for staff in assigned areas.

Directly supervise keeper and senior keeper areas and all aspects of their work and including the evaluation of their work performance.

Supervise the day to day activities of the live food unit. This includes and not limited to supervising staff, overseeing and inspecting live animals, breeding systems, handling and processing of live food and distribution activities.

Conduct research on live food production, production systems, sustainability and other relevant topics.

Observe and collect data e.g. on animal intake, selection/preference and generate reports.

Ensure proper documentation of all function related records and data.

Prepare daily and/or monthly reports as and when required. Participate in the Animal Collection Department regular meetings and planning sessions.

May participate in scientific meetings, conferences and workshops pertaining to his/her area.

The Animal Collection Department is a 24-hour a day, 7 days a week Operation and the Live Food Supervisor may have to work extended hours on all shifts assigned.

Any other relevant duties assigned by line manager.

Requirements


Requirements


High school degree or equivalent in biology,animal production or genetics

College degree with an biology, animal, genetics or laboratory focus

Minimum of 4 to 6years experience in a relevant field

Must have good command of English and Arabic or Urdu

Good computer experience, data management skills, numerical skills and experience of MS Office Suit

Good communication skills speaking, reading and writing

Knowledge of live food production

Interest in animals genetics, animal husbandry or nutrition

An understanding of the purpose of Al Ain Wildlife Park, its mission and the outline function of each department within the organisation.

Ability to work in extreme / ambient temperatures

Ability to possess valid UAE driver license

Must be able to work during any shift / hours / days assigned

Proven strong interpersonal and partnering skills.
