Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

This position manages, coordinates and influences all functions related to the safety testing, repair and maintenance of bio-medical patient care equipment.

Manages all aspects of medical equipment technology and training programs for relevant BME technical staff in regards to equipment operations, standards and maintenance.

The focus is also on managing all engineering and maintenance functions within the hospital. The department utilizes a quality management system and is compliant with JCIA requirements.

- Manages the provision of Bio-medical Engineering services including implementing effective policies, procedures, processes and systems
- Leads implementation and ongoing improvement of bio medical engineering management programs, including operational standards and effective industry specific key performance indicators.
- Provides support for all medical equipment services in terms of service, delivery, efficiency and cost effectiveness, and professionalism.
- Demonstrates an on-going commitment to service quality improvement, and ensures a high level commitment to professional job performance and customer service
- Promotes and maintains effective communication systems within the department that ensure the team managers/supervisors work together towards achieving the departmental objectives.
- Motivates, organizes and encourages teamwork within the workforce to ensure set productivity targets are met.
- Supports the implementation, maintenance and modifications as necessary for an effective paperless, CAFM integrated, Equipment Maintenance program incorporating accurate data, relevant histories, efficient preventive maintenance schedules and flexible reporting needs.
- Acts as a medical equipment technology and engineering expert on hospital committees as required.
- Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner.
- Supports all bio medical engineering departments resources and activities in relation to company objectives and set targets.
- Maintains current knowledge in international testing and quality management issues and applicable standards.
- Plan and finalize a yearly maintenance budget in coordination with the various operation departments taking into account the regular services offered to various outlets.
- Prepares reports, data, and make recommendations for improving operations and solving maintenance related problems.
- Manage all projects and contractors with regards to budget, quality and scope of work that meets the requirements as per Building regulations and local municipal by laws
- Manage risk assessments for all projects and issuing permits to work. Ensure that all projects are completed within specified time and that all specifications are met
- Make sure that all contractors adhere to safe working practices by inducting all contractors on safety and requirements
- Implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs.
- Ensuring that budget is monitored and adhered to.
- Design and implement maintenance year planner with regards to servicing of all equipment .Provide and ensure in service training.
- Maintain a Hospital Engineering Maintenance Management System according to relevant principles.
- Provide a Contingency Plan for continuous availability of life support / essential services or provide an alternative to ensure the least impact on the patient and business.
- Liaising for/ representing the Hospital in Maintenance and provision of services related issues with public institutions such as Municipality, Dept of Manpower, Fire Department etc.
- Consult with physicians and nurses on equipment operation and problems by providing informal guidance and in-service training as required.
- Participate in budgeting process and monitor performance against budget.
- Plan, agree and implement Capex expenditure with hospital management
- Ensure customer satisfaction survey is conducted on a regular basis and ensure requirements/complaints are identified, investigated, acted upon and managed appropriately

Requirements

- Education: Bachelor's Degree or similar in Engineering / Bio-medical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Bio-medical / Engineering role on a Supervisory or Managerial level.
- Experience in Facility management and general engineering is a requirement
- Combinations of Education and Experience will be considered.
- Proven technical background in multiple areas of Biomedical Engineering (i.e. OR, Anesthesia, Imaging, Laboratory, IT/IM Systems, etc.).
- Skilled in the use of electronic medical equipment database programs.
- Understanding of automated test equipment concepts.
- Familiar with the JCIA, AAMI, ECRI, NFPA, ANSI, FDA, etc and the ability to implement the latest standards.
- Understanding of leading edge technologies affecting BME departments.
- Proficient in business applications such as Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel and Power Point and ability to learn new systems in a timely manner.
- Skilled in the understanding of current electrical safety codes.
- Managerial, financial, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Financial Management competence.
- Multicultural workplace experience.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
