Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

1. Ensures that all Company Ships and marine equipment are maintained and/or repaired in a cost effective manner, with consideration given to quality and longer duration of equipment.
2. To ensure that all cargo handling machineries (deck and engine) are maintained to operational standards at all times.
3. Directly coordinate with ship managers on all technical matters of the ships that are not directly managed by our company.
4. Ensure close and proper monitoring, reporting, and taking actions on ships performance during passage or during cargo operations.
5. Planning ahead for all major repairs and maintenance requirement of the ships in coordination with commercial department to ensure minimum impact on availability of ships and equipment to meet company commercial obligations.
6. To manage planned and preventive maintenance system for the ships and equipment in coordination with onboard crews.
7. To formulate and execute repair programs of the ships.
8. To ensure that ships meet all statutory and class requirements and arrange surveys in time to maintain the validity of statutory and classification certificates
9. To manage procurement, stock levels, inventories and consumption of spare parts and other items for the ships.
10. To ensure ships onboard stores and shore store are managed properly to ensure minimum down time for ships and equipment and at the same time to avoid any excess level of stores stagnation.

11. Provides leadership & supervision for the maintenance staff including the following:
a) Provides direction and instruction to subordinate staff, providing regular feedback and regular appraisals.
b) Counsels subordinates, up to and including discipline or termination recommendations.
c) Follows company management policies and procedures in the application of managing subordinates.
d) Participates in meeting Omanisation goals annually, assuring training and development for Omani staff.

12. To supervise and train all other staff under his control.
13. To Monitor and report the operational performance of the ships.
14. To draw up specification documents for dry docking and surveys.
15. To manage dry dockings and surveys to ensure all work is completed in a timely and orderly fashion.
16. To manage all technical aspect of the projects related to shipping equipment and assets.
17. To advice management on all shipping technical requirements and issues.
18. To prepare Shipping Technical budget.
19. Performs any other related activities, as requested.

Requirements

- Education requirements: Degree in Marine Engineering or a Class-1 Marine Engineering COC or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: Requires at least 5 years as chief engineer on foreign going vessels and additionally requires a minimum of 5 years experience as a technical superintendent, managing fleet of vessels.
- Specialist Knowledge of ships machinery repair and maintenance.
- Good knowledge of instrumentation and control on the machineries.
- Good knowledge of electrical maintenance
- Thorough understanding of all international maritime regulations and conventions pertaining to Vessels/crafts
- Through understanding of vessels statutory and class survey requirement
- Good Knowledge of ship architecture, hull maintenance and protection.
- Good knowledge of projects management

Skills and ability:
- Must be able to demonstrate leadership and influencing skills.
- Must be able to exercise good judgment in order to set priorities.
- Requires excellent Management and supervisory skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work.
- Must be customer service oriented, sensitive to the needs of the departments and others.
- Requires advanced verbal and written communications skills in English, in addition to effective interpersonal skills.
- Requires exceptional time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work environment.
- Requires Omani drivers license, with good driving record.
- Must be able to use a desktop and laptop computer with ease.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
1. Office environment, but requires frequent presence on the ships.
2. Occasionally will be required to travel
3. Day work and require to come as and when required
4. Required to observe all safety and health requirements for work areas including onboard the ships.
5. Must be able to take charge of all engineering aspects of ship management, in all weather conditions.
6. Must have professional appearance, consistent with local customs and work area.
