Employment: Full Time

A major western contractor is looking for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to commercially oversee a portfolio of multimillion contracts in Oman. Office based, this position will be looking after 8 Quantity Surveyors and comes with a highly attractive package with the inclusion of high-end accommodation and 100% schooling fees on top of the basic monthly salary up to 36,000 AED. Working for an established and highly reputable Contacting Company, this is a highly rewarding position for the successful Managing Quantity Surveyor.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To commercially oversee a regional turnover circa OMR 42 million / AED 400 million (Building and Heavy civil engineering portfolio of projects)
- Commercially control a portfolio of projects running concurrently circa 6 to 8 schemes delivered via site based Senior Quantity Surveyors Managers
- Provide strategic and operational commercial advice.
- To act as focal point for all procurement, surveying and contractual issues within the business unit.
- To protect in a non-adversarial manner, the commercial interests of the business and to communicate progress or issues to the commercial management team.
- Proactively manage the commercial teams ensuring deadlines are achieved and accurate financial reports are produced.
- Check and approve the conditions of contract for projects, prior to tender submission or award of contract as appropriate.
- Maintain and evolve policy and procedures on commercial, contractual and risk matters and implement on agreement with Commercial Manager
- Overview and manage the procurement process ensuring best practice.
- Scrutinise purchase agreements and overview terms with suppliers and sub-contractors.
- Work closely with the Commercial Manager on all commercial and contractual matters, offering advice or solutions to issues that may arise
- Drive relationships with both clients and external professional teams to value engineer and negotiate schemes, ensuring maximum client satisfaction and maximum profit.
- Work closely with the management team and staff to forge good inter office relations, and maintain the harmonious working of the business.
- Play a key role in promoting innovation, new thinking and continuous improvement across the commercial function.
- Monitor and assess resource levels, conduct interviews and recruit in line with company needs

Requirements

- Nationality: Western
- To have a proven track record in commercial management at Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Commercial Manager level within a recognised building contractor. I.e. would consider and prefer a Senior QS looking to step up into a Managing Quantity Surveyors role.
- Able to demonstrate strong commercial acumen combined with experience of delivering successful commercial results.
- Extensive pre and post contract commercial experience.
- Able to demonstrate a high level of technical competence combined with commercial awareness and understanding.
- Well versed in commercial matters, and the resolution of pre and post contract issues.
- A competent negotiator who is able to agree profitable rates and contracts without compromising the companys standards or margins.
- Exposure to the bigger picture business matters.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Possess strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a changing environment and be able to adapt to change.
- Possess an eye for detail and be commercially astute
- To have a good understanding of pre-qualification and client presentations.
- Exposure to supply chain management.
- To have well rounded construction knowledge with exposure to general management
- Knowledge of Candy software
- Previous overseas experience not essential

SALARY PACKAGE:
- Basic Salary 30,000 - 36,000 AED
- Discretionary bonus (up to 3 months basic salary)
