Atkins has been established in the Gulf for over 40 years, having first carried out design and supervision commissions in the Gulf area in 1967. The regional head office (Dubai) was established in 1979.

We provide a full range of design, engineering and project management services for buildings, transportation and other infrastructure programmes

Atkins in the Middle East now employs around 2,500 staff serving Gulf clients across all market sectors from offices in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait City, Manama, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah.

Job details:
This role is required to review and inspect the design and construction of around 20km of micro tunneled sewerage system, including a number of temporary and permanent shafts, in Doha.

It is a full time site based role, in Doha Qatar for duration of 30 - 55 months, commencing in Q1 of 2015.

The Engineers/Inspectors will report directly to the Quality Assurance Manager (QAM); and shall be responsible for the review and approval of design submittals and have direct oversight of the PQP execution and Sub-Contractors and fabrication activities.

The Engineers/Inspectors shall have site based experience on tunneling type of contracts and be responsible for:

1. Project Wide Reviews and Approvals of Reports/Statements - Design, Durability, Hydraulic, GI etc Reports and proposals
2. Design Reviews and Approvals of:
Preliminary Design of the Permanent works
Detail design of the Permanent Works
Detail design of the Temporary Works
Contractor method statements
Shop Drawings
3. Construction Reviews and Approvals:
Plant & equipment
Testing & Inspections sign-off
Materials Inspections and sign-off
Construction Inspection and Sign-off
Full time supervision
Construction related design reviews

Technical / Project Management Competencies:
- Candidates must have experience executing the following tasks on complex projects:
- Reviewing of detail design and shop drawings or temporary and permanent works
- Reviewing of contractors construction plans and method statements
- Reviewing of contractors construction Testing and Inspection plans
- Inspection and supervision of construction works in their specified discipline
Communicate with, negotiate with and influence stakeholders
- Understand and define roles required throughout the project.
- Adhere to change control policies to provide formal records of project change.
- Ensure the outputs of the project and the process by which the outputs are delivered meet stakeholder needs and requirements.
- Communicate effectively within your team ensuring that conflicts are avoided.

Responsibilities:
- Effective and timely reporting;
- Timely responses to submittals
- To carry out the day-to-day management of own responsibilities
- To ensure our scope is well understood
- Co-ordinate the technical services being provided by all parties, including other disciplines and facilitate integration as required
- To deliver the services in accordance with the Project Agreement and achieve the financial objectives set at the commencement of the Project.
- Contribute to the monthly project review in conjunction with the Project Director and explain and propose appropriate action in relation to any negative variances.
- Ensure delivery is in accordance with the Atkins Technical Assurance Goals and Atkins Design Principles;
- To ensure the safety critical aspects of the project are identified and actively managed
- To support the Technical interfaces with the client and other stakeholders
- To communicate Technical information effectively
- To co-ordinate the Technical services being provided by all parties, this includes all other business units and sub-consultants
- To actively contribute to the Project technical reviews, as identified in the Project Plan or as required by the Project Technical Reviewer are undertaken.

Requirements

Qualifications:
- Bachelors and/or Post Graduate degree in the specified engineering discipline (Structural, Geotechnical, Material and/or Tunneling) from a WHED accredited educational institution;
- Chartered / Professional status. Proof of current membership or registration with an internationally recognised professional organisation from North America, Great Britain, Europe, Australia or equivalent.

Essential Criteria:
- Should have 10 years minimum professional engineering experience of which 5 should be specific to their descipline;
- Must be an excellent team player and able to work with, coach, mentor and energise others in the team;
- Must have a good analytical approach with drive to achieve results;
- Should have excellent English language communication skills (written and oral).

Desirable Criteria:
- Working experience in GCC is preferred.
- Good Arabic language skills.

- Demonstrate sound relationship-building skills with both clients/contractors and staff;
- Ability to influence and coach others;
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
- Good computer skills in MS Office and other software tools;
- Ability to meet tight delivery requirements;
- Flexible attitude to balance work load and deadlines.
