Mechanical Department Manager

Job description / Role

- Overall responsibility of management of Mechanical department comprising of rotating, static and packaged equipment engineers, plant fire equipment, HVAC, plumbing, buildings fire protection, designers and CADD personnel.
- Coordinate with mechanical lead engineers to ensure correct implementation of mechanical design, equipment sizing and selection, and coordinate the work with mechanical engineers as required.
- Prepare and approve mechanical design work, critical mechanical deliverables including technical specifications, equipment drawings, purchase requisitions, etc.
- Resolve specialty related mechanical engineering issues by applying accepted principals, codes and standards.
- Actively participate in preparing of project proposals, manhours and cost estimates.
- Review and approve project engineering packages for milestone submittals.
- Participate in interdisciplinary and squad check reviews.
- Scheduling and expediting work of the mechanical department.
- Develop and maintain mechanical department organization charts and suggested organizational improvement as needed.
- Ensuring quality and safety standards and procedures are followed.
- Coordinate activities with other departments and clients.
- Participate in the development of mechanical department long terms plans.
- Make staffing decisions and provide employees with training and development opportunities.
- Propose and manage mechanical department budget.
- Make recommendations for salary increases, performance evaluations and Human Resources activities.

Requirements

- BS Mechanical Engineering degree and registered as professional engineer with significant experience of 20 years.
- Has experience in oil / gas, Hydrocarbon, refinery, or infrastructure industries and is recognized as specialist in mechanical engineering on large projects.
- Must have thorough knowledge of engineering practices and economic principles, calculation method and design details.
- Experience in supervising mechanical design activities in multiple concurrent jobs.
- Must demonstrate capability of mentoring and training young engineers.
- Extensive experience in various mechanical engineering fields; like rotating equipment, static equipment, plant fire protection, HVAC, etc.
- Track record of successful management of mechanical departments in major design offices.
- Knowledge of mechanical design soft wares and systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical international deign codes and standards (API, ASME, NFP, etc.)
- Strong management and interpersonal skills.
