Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

1.Configures, installs and maintains local area network hardware, software and telecommunications services such as personal computers, system software, software applications, printers, servers, routers, bridges, switches, modems, cabling and Internet service providers.
2.Installs, modifies and makes minor repairs to personal computer hardware and software systems, and provides technical assistance and training to system users. This includes setup of Teklogix equipment (VMTs, HHTs. Base stations and Controllers).
3.Installs and tests software upgrades.
4.Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other programs into computer.
5.Enters commands and observes system functions to verify correct system operation.
6.Responds to department inquiries concerning systems operation and diagnoses system hardware, software and operator problems.
7.Contacts vendors for spare parts and repairs for computers, printers, telephone system, HHTs, and so forth.
8.Assists with back-up and disaster recovery plans and implementation.
9.Assists with network security, selecting passwords, setting security parameters, and installing anti-virus and other security software.
10.Performs other related duties as requested.

Requirements

1.Education: Requires a college degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited university.

2.Experience: Requires three to five years of general computer network administration experience, in a small to mid-sized organization.

3.Specialized Knowledge:
a.Must have thorough understanding of LAN/WAN (networking) installation, administration, and on-going maintenance.
b.Requires a thorough understanding of Teklogix equipment, such as VMTs, HHTs, base stations, and controllers.
c.Must have a thorough understanding of MS applications, including operating systems and software (such as MS Office 2000).
d.Requires some understanding of NAVIS (SPARCS and EXPRESS) and BAAN, in the day to day troubleshooting and problem-solving.

4.Skills:
a.Prefer certifications in Microsoft applications.
b.Must have the ability to solve problems of low to medium complexity.
c.Must be multi-task oriented with proven ability to manage several active projects simultaneously.
d.Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
e.Due to access to company sensitive information, must be able to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion.
f.Must be able to anticipate internal client needs and maintain good working relationships with users and management.
g.Requires proficiency in various software applications and programs.
h.Requires ability to communicate in English, both verbally and written.
i.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
