Network Design Consultant

Job description / Role

Job Summary
Provide the required consultancy for converting the HLDs into LLDs. While doing so the cost is to be monitored and aligned with budget and the quality of the design should be maintained.

Main Responsibilities:
- Develop Network Design strategy, plan and budget in line with the corporate Strategy.
- Develop/review policies, procedures, and processes for the Network Design unit.
- Understand design requirements for the zone and define technical design requirement
- Communicate to the network design manager the design requirements.
- Review the high level designs of fibre network infrastructure, civil works and other elements of the network, both for the Outside and Inside plant
- Review and approve Low Level Designs of fibre network infrastructure and civil works and other elements of the network, both for the Outside and Inside plant
- Challenge and critically review the contractors/ vendors design to ensure that the low-level design provides the best balance between cost, feasibility and time to market
- Maintain As Built designs documentation.
- Participate in the preparation of the fibre optic network RFPs in coordination with the Procurement function.
- Review vendors proposals and recommend the best vendor that meets the overall requirements.
- Ensure speed of execution particularly in engaging with external stakeholders (e.g: municipalities)
- Design the implementation plan, based upon the network planning report, to achieve the greatest network efficiency - ensure network quality and at the same time reduce costs.
- Verify sites identified by Network Planning are suitable according to the technical specifications required for the network.
- Analyse possible faults and problems that might arise, and alter the network design to meet new requirements.
- Prepare periodic reports with respect to the Design activities and achievements to be submitted to Network Design Manager.
- This covers the key responsibilities to be performed, but is not all inclusive. It doesnt preclude other responsibilities from being assigned and undertaken.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Certifications:
- B.Sc. degree in Telecommunication or Network Engineering or related field.
- Masters degree in telecom is a plus
- Relevant telecoms engineering planning and design qualifications.

Experience:
- At least 8 years of progressive experience within the telecommunications industry or related field.
- At least 3 years hands on experience in GIS systems (e.g NE)

Competencies:
- Expert level in the FTTx planning, Design and implementation.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in telecom transport and access networks
- Very good understanding of the telecom operator planning and order fulfilment process
- Hard work with details orientation
- Team player and team leader
- Very well organized and punctual
- Result oriented
