Network Planning Consultant

Job description / Role

Job Summary:
Consultant for network planning, budgeting, material specifications and design guidelines of the network roll out plan.

Main Responsibilities:
- Develop Network Planning strategy, business plan and budget in line with the Corporate Strategy.
- Develop/review policies, procedure, and processes for the Network Planning unit.
- Review and develop the companys planning and design guidelines.
- Review and develop the material specifications for different network components.
- Review and approve the materials proposed by the build vendors.
- Develop the implementation / roll-out plan for the fibre network (the master plan) in line with the companys targeted coverage.
- Planning of all network elements including access, core, central offices etc.; to ensure network capacity meets current and future net requirements.
- Size the network for each zone and ensure the network is built to the highest efficiency possible
- Participate in the preparation of the fibre optic network RFPs in coordination with the Procurement function.
- Review vendors proposals and recommend the best vendor that meets the overall requirements.
- Prepare network quotes and issue engineering plans that clearly explain and solve network capacity augments, customer requirements and integration reconfigurations.
- Perform analysis of and recommendations for different technical options.
- Support in ensuring engineering plans are well understood and carried out as specified.
- Identify critical issues and develop solutions.
- Support in ensuring engineering plans meet network needs in terms of reliability and capacity, and ensure the Network is built for ease of management from an operations perspective.
- Maintain As Built designs documentation.
- Prepare periodic reports with respect to the Planning activities and achievements to be submitted to Network Planning Manager.
- This covers the key responsibilities to be performed, but is not all inclusive. It does not preclude other responsibilities from being assigned and undertaken.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Certifications:
- B.Sc degree in Telecommunication or Network Engineering or related field.
- Masters degree in telecom is a plus
- Relevant telecoms engineering planning and design qualifications.

Experience:
- At least 8 years of progressive experience within the telecommunications industry or related field.
- At least 3 years hands on experience in GIS systems (e.g NE)

Competencies:
- Expert level in the FTTx planning, Design and implementation.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in telecom transport and access networks
- Very good understanding of the telecom operator planning and order fulfilment process
- Hard work with details orientation
- Team player and team leader
- Very well organized and punctual
- Result oriented
