Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Network Specialist installs the Hardware (Network and Workstations) and maintains the Network Security. He helps the IT Administrator in implementing the IT Hardware / Network Policy and works under his guidance. Maintains the help desk system. The Network Specialist also plays an important role of trouble shooting various software and hardware issues.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Carries out all activities necessary for the proper operation of the Hardware / network and its associated software.
2. Maintains helpdesk system by timely logging of all kinds of user raised calls/issues
3. Application Support, Network Support, Desktop Support and network components troubleshooting.
4. Maintains contacts with external support engineers to ensure the resolution of reported problems and receipt of version updates and new or additional network hardware.
5. Maintains contacts with external engineers and suppliers to ensure the resolution of reported problems and the receipt of new hardware.
6. Provides technical assistance to user departments with network systems and application packages.
7. Provides maintenance, wiring, and repairs of Workstations, Peripherals (Printers, Scanners, etc) and communication equipment.
8. Provides user training on the use of the network
9. Maintains Hardware / Network activity logs.
10. Analyse network data to determine network usage, disk space availability, or server function.
11. Configure security settings or access permissions for groups or individuals.
12. Configure and define parameters for installation or testing of local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), hubs, routers, switches, controllers, multiplexers, or related networking equipment.
13. Identify the causes of networking problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment.
14. Install network software, including antivirus, security or firewall software.
15. Install or repair network cables, including fibre optic cables.
16. Perform routine maintenance or standard repairs to networking components or equipment.
17. Analyse and report computer network security breaches or attempted breaches.
18. Document help desk requests and resolutions.
19. Provide telephone support related to networking or connectivity issues.
20. Run monthly network reports.
21. Test repaired items to ensure proper operation.
22. Train users in procedures related to network applications software or related systems.
23. Evaluate local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) performance data to ensure sufficient availability or speed, to identify network problems, or for disaster recovery purposes.
24. Performs any tasks and duties appropriate to his/her realm of knowledge, skills, and experience as required by the employer
25. Maintains and assures the confidentiality of data
26. Assists the IT Administrator to perform the maintenance schedule for the System.
27. Attends meetings as required.
28. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Manager.

Requirements

EDUCATION:
- Bachelors Degree/ Technical Diploma in computing or related field.
- Desirable: Specialization / Certification in Network Technologies like Cisco and Microsoft Certification (CCNA, MCSE, etc.)
EXPERIENCE:
- Two - Three (2-3) years in front-line support function for PCs and LAN (Network)
- Desirable: Experience in Network Administration.
- 3-5 years experience in network planning, implementation, administration & Support.
- Experience in creating technical documentation for network installations or changes to existing installations.

Technical Skills:
- PC /Printer Maintenance, Computer Peripheral installation and Configuration. Demonstrate knowledge of Wireless Networking, Network Protocol TCP/IP, VLAN configuration & rules

Administrative Skills:
- Good Analytical, Problem Solving, Multi-tasking, Quality Focus and Coordination skills; Ability to work under pressure and Attention to detail

Language Skills:
- Good in Written and spoken English

- Must have a Kuwait Drivers License.

PHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Normally works in an air conditioned office, in neat and pleasant surroundings.
- May require to work late hours and on an irregular schedule or on-call basis.
- Requires regular moment throughout the facility to assist & ensure smooth functioning of the system; bends, stoops and reaches to perform routine job tasks.
