The Role


The Role


Reporting to the Assistant Director of Nursing, is responsible and accountable for managing and providing leadership to a service. The incumbent manages the staff and resources and provides leadership and consultative advice in clinical care, operational and administrative activities of the service.

1. In collaboration with the Hospital Trauma Centre leadership team, develops, implements, evaluates and revises service/program specific plans and goals and objectives. Ensures consistency with project and community operational plans.

2. Manages the operations of the assigned clinical service(s)/program(s); schedules and assigns staff; co-ordinates and manages clinical practice and patient care activities; authorizes the reassignment of staff within and across clinical service/program areas of responsibility; responsible for creating master rotations.

3. Takes a proactive role under the guidance of Nursing Management/Nursing Education in training, education and CQI activates of Hospital Trauma Centre nursing staff. Promotes a learning environment. Identifies opportunities for improvement.

4. Manages assigned staff in accordance with professional standards, performance expectations and current legislated/contractual obligations; promotes and/or provides for co-operative working relationships, and a quality practice environment.

5. Acts as a resource to the leadership team in area of specialization. Provides expert consultative advice to interdisciplinary team members as required.

6. Supports the development of annual operating and capital equipment budget forecasts for the assigned service area; monitors activities and ensures expenditures are within approved budgets.

7.Identifies efficiencies and promotes optimal use of resources, making recommendations for current and future program and service adjustments.

Requirements


Requirements


Education:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or Education
Postgraduate course in designated clinical specialty
ACLS certification

Other:
Professional practicing designation

Experience
Minimum of five (5) years experience with three (3) years management experience. Minimum one year in assigned areas of responsibility. Clinical experience in assigned area.

Skills:
Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
Demonstrated knowledge of research methodology, practices and techniques
Excellent investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure and with changing priorities and deadlines
Knowledge of Information Systems applications, tools and concepts
