Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Carry out safety inspections, investigations and conduct safety audits, induction and training in order to create safety awareness and ensure a safer working environment for Company and contractor staff

Policies & Procedures:
Follow all relevant operational procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

Safety, Quality & Environment:
Follow all relevant safety, quality and environmental control procedures and instructions so that personal safety/the safety of others is not jeopardised and a minimum level of product/service quality and environmental impact can be guaranteed

Safety Inspection:
Regularly inspect plant facilities, work procedures, operating conditions, processes and tools are in order to identify safety hazards and provide advice on preventive measures. Prepare safety inspection reports for the benefit of the work location supervisor and the safety supervisor.

Safety Audit:
Participate in safety audits e.g. Permit to work Audit, in order to ensure compliance with safety procedures; submit variance reports to Safety Supervisor.

Safety Surveillance:
Undertake safety surveillance in all work areas to ensure proper implementation of and compliance with all company safety procedures, precautions and rules, PPE etc.; monitors the implementation of the work permit system within the company

Safety Communication:
Update the safety statistic sign board and safety signs, notice boards and first aid kits are in place and in good condition in order to effectively and timely communicate all safety messages.

Safety Training:
Conduct regular safety induction sessions for new recruits, both company and contractor’s staff, and Training sessions e.g. Permit to work, Isolation procedures or stand by attendant in order to educate new and old staff on the basics of safety guidelines, rules and procedures.

Incident Investigation:
Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents occurring in company locations e.g. examining incident sites, questioning victims and witnesses, preliminary identification of possible causes in order to understand the broad detail of the incident.

Documentation and Follow Up:
Maintain records of all incidents safety non–compliance reports and training sessions conducted and follow up on the corrective actions taken in order to ensure that similar incidents do not recur.

Safety Awareness and Improvements:
Participate in Operations, Maintenance and Engineering (OMES) meetings for wastewater plant in order to share safety ideas, spread Safety awareness and suggest safety improvements.

Requirements

The job holder keeps pace with OSHA standards and updates and international safety specifications including any local requirements. Additionally the job holder is required to work within the Company safety policies, procedures, and standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
University degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Minimum Experience:
3 years’ experience of working with safety systems, ideally in a heavy industrial or utilities environment.
Prior experience of conducting safety investigations and developing potential corrective actions.
Prior experience of conducting safety induction training to internal employees and contractors.

Job Specific Skills:
Broad understanding of loss control theory and loss prevention techniques.
Excellent risk assessment and auditing skills.
Sound training and presentation skills.
Excellent incident investigation skills.
Sound understanding of personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Sound understanding of safe chemical handling practices and all COSHH regulations.
Sound understanding of all OSHA, NFPA and other relevant safety regulations and standards.
