The RoleThe RoleHappold Consulting is the strategic consulting arm of Buro Happold Limited. Buro Happold is one of the world’s leading consultant engineers and has around 1600 staff in a network of offices and project offices in 30 countries. Happold Consulting provides leadership for the development and delivery of comprehensive urban and regional strategies. Multi-sectoral analysis, urban planning and design and general and specialist engineering are integral parts of our work. Our client is based in Riyadh but has major projects in the western region and elsewhere in the Kingdom. It is responsible for the delivery of the Kingdom’s industrial strategy and as such has a number of city-scale developments with significant infrastructure elements to control and operate. It is looking to establish a centralised office through which to better organise the projects that it directly undertakes or are within its area of interest. A formal PMO is required to oversee this portfolio and to ensure that the teams and offices running the individual projects are doing so to the highest international standards. |
RequirementsRequirementsThis individual would lead the local team and would be at Associate Director level within Happold Consulting. Client facing responsibilities include: • The PMO manager would have the lead responsibility for the design and establishment of the PMO • The PMO Manager will be responsible for delivering or overseeing the component parts of the design and establishment programme including data capture, technology assessment and design, change management and staff training. The programme will also require the testing and validation of organisational and process design using a pilot, site based project • The PMO Manager will be responsible for defining the validation work and managing the team he/she will appoint to undertake this. As Associate Director within the firm, the individual would have P&L responsibility for the commission’s successful delivery and achieving the highest levels of client satisfaction. The individual would have responsibilities as part of the firm’s senior management team. These are set out in more detail below and include the internal mentoring and development of more junior staff and a contribution to the ongoing development and delivery of the firm’s strategy. Where appropriate within the constraints of working for the primary client, the Associate Director may be asked to lead or contribute to work undertaken by the firm for the other clients. Person Requirements: The key requirements for the Associate Director are: • Degree in Engineering, Planning or Business from an internationally recognised university • Internationally recognised project management qualification, preferably PMP, or equivalent • Significant relevant work experience including team leader roles on project and project management within industrial and development projects is essential. Ideally this experience will include significant aspects of infrastructure engineering • Direct experience of the design and implementation of project or programme management offices, with strong preference for this being within an industrial or development context • Experience of working in a consulting environment is highly preferable in addition to experience of working within delivery or project management organisations • Experience of a mix of public and private sector will be preferable. Experience of undertaking this type of work in an international environment will be important • Good business consultancy skills and familiarity with standard industry tools and approaches are important • Familiarity with the organizational design and change management programmes. • Excellent communication skills: both verbal and written • Experience in working in teams as well as dealing with internal and external clients • Confident, independent, and proactive character, with a track record of taking the lead in challenging situations. Ability to take charge and define projects or tasks in ambiguous situations with limited guidance • Strong drive to succeed, someone who continuously strives to take what they do to a higher level • Good marketing and sales skills with the ability to sell the full set of Happold Consulting portfolio of services • Good computer IT skills with an excellent working knowledge of project management tools • Strong international focus and high cultural awareness As an Associate Director, your responsibilities would be as follows: • Act as team leader for appropriate projects or parts of projects, taking ownership for day to day project management • Build relationships with and manage relevant clients and sub-consultants on a regular basis to ensure successful delivery of projects • Help grow the business in KSA and other parts of the Middle East • Supervise other junior team members in your projects • Perform key economic, financial and business analyses and develop insights as required on projects • Mentor key team members in order that meaningful delegation can apply within the team • Ensure learning and development initiatives are implemented as required within the team • Contribute to overall sector/discipline growth and leadership for projects and organizational capability building consulting • Ensure timely delivery of technical/quality reports and work products produced by the team • Ensure that proper rigour is delivered on each project, and in particular ensuring QA processes are fully planned and implemented • Contribute to the reviewing and development of financial and technical submissions/proposals • Contribution to organizational strategy development • Undertake line management responsibilities with regard to junior staff or other reports. The role would be based in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but would require periodic travel within the Kingdom, Middle East and to London. |
