Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Our Middle East operations, based out of our Doha office in Qatar, are currently seeking a professional and self-motivated Pavement Engineer and Researcher to join their small but growing team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering and managing research and commercial projects focused on pavement design, planning, construction, quality and maintenance.

This is a role that will require you to manage client relationships and deliver projects to time and within budget. You will also be expected to contribute to business development by building long-term client relationships. Experience of working with and delivering projects to both government and private sector clients is desirable.

The role will require you to be proactive, enthusiastic and diligent. You will have excellent communication and technical skills, along with a thorough approach and attention to detail.

This role will be based in Qatar with some international travel in the region and also occasionally to the UK.

This is a critical role as we start to increase our “in-region” capability and start to move from being a “start-up” operation to a more mature, growth business.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

Technical Experience

• PhD in pavement design or materials

• 5-10 years of work experience, in addition to a PhD

• Expertise in pavement materials and mix design, including Superpave

• Expertise in pavement structural design

• Good knowledge of pavement evaluation and maintenance

• Good knowledge of pavement construction and quality

• Good research record with at least 5 publications in peer-reviewed journals


Client and Stakeholder Management Experience

• Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to:

- Present project findings to a range of audiences including senior client personnel

- Prepare and present proposals for new work to both new and existing clients, including research proposals to funding bodies such as the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF)

• A track record of working co-operatively within project teams


Deliverables & Project Management Experience

• An ability to prepare key client deliverables (including proposals, plans, interim and final reports) which meet both TRL’s and our clients’ quality requirements

• Strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to “get things done”

• The ability to identify risks and to suggest and implement risk mitigation plans

Other Skills & Experience

• Self-motivation, with the ability to plan and execute independently with limited supervision

• The ability to work as part of a close knit regional team as well as with our UK head office

• Excellent communication skills (written, spoken & interpersonal at all levels of the business)

• Solid IT skills (including Email, Internet, Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

• Experience of working in the Middle East an advantage

• Spoken and written Arabic skills also an advantage
