Job Summary
We are currently looking for an experienced Permanent Way Engineer to support Atkins involvement in its role as the Contractors Lead Designer on the Metro projects in the region. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will contribute on the project throughout the various design stages
Demonstrates ability to understand complex projects in integration.
Taking responsibility for delivering complete projects
Starts developing relations with Atkins colleagues outside of own business area.
Exhibits clear progression towards a technical or management career path.
Keeps up-to-date knowledge of new technologies through CPD, otherwise through with the need for technical training.
Pway Design Engineers with typically 4 to 6 years of experience
Job Details
Technical
Good understanding of International Railway standards such as Network Rail/European Standards
Able to present their work and represent their colleagues on the project in presentations and meetings
Able to independently deliver work and integrate with larger project teams
Application of other sources of reference within Atkins
Develop broad technical competence.
Able to guide cad draughtsman
Experience of managing interfaces with other railway engineering disciplines with some supervision
Ability to determine appropriate basic input data prior to commencement of work
Applies professional knowledge and experienced judgment but refers to more senior staff for complex matters
Ensures that their own hand and computer calculations are clear, understandable, properly referenced and filed
Fully proficient in Bentley Railtrack, MXRail, MicroStation & AutoCad and design using appropriate software and able to prepare calculations for track layouts with some supervision
An understanding of track construction methods & stage works of projects
Offer new ideas to improve solutions and processes and see through ideas to implementation and completion.
Knowledge of adapting and applying relevant cad standards
Project Management
Responsible for completion of tasks to time and cost
Knowledge of commercial and financial aspects of project management
Able to work as reliable and pro-active member of the team, able to apply knowledge gained
Increasing knowledge of, and use of, Atkins capabilities outside of business units.
Developing relationships with Atkins colleagues outside of the business area.
Developing relationships with Atkins P. Way Managers in other regions, ensuring timely completion of projects within budget to the desired specification.

Good understanding of Rail technologies and markets
An understanding of railway civil engineering technologies and markets and able to discuss with clients
Successful in identifying and following through on leads/suggestions associated with existing clients.
Able to estimate pricing associated with projects within their area of expertise.
Able to respond professionally to enquiries
H&S
Demonstrates the necessary level of competence and responsibility according to grade
Environmental
Clear understanding of relevant safety legislation including CDM regulations
Key Relationships
Internal:
Nurture relationships with other colleagues within the ME business
External:
Contact with clients, representatives, contractors and suppliers on matters concerning the project and is able to deputies when required the department representative on multi-disciplinary projects.
Requirements
Qualification
Degree in Engineering/Science or related discipline with typically 3-4 years of relevant experience or Diploma in Engineering with 6 years of experience.
Expected to attain Incorporated Engineer status or development objectives completed for Chartered Engineer status.
