Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Performs a variety of routine blood drawing procedures, to include vein puncture, using standard equipment such as vaccutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles.
Interacts directly with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation.
Utilizes standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification records, appropriate collection information in accordance with established protocol.
Processes, labels, and stores blood samples for subsequent analysis.
Maintains inventory of supplies, reordering as required stocks supplies on carts and hand trays.
Performs various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
Comply with the standards laid down by the Joint Commission International Accreditation standards and perform the duties necessary to support and achieve accreditation.
Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt.
Prepares reports and maintains files and records according to guidelines of regulatory agencies.
Ensures high levels of performance through active quality control programs in all testing areas.
Cleans equipment and work areas and disposes of contaminated materials.
Risks are identified and controls are implemented.
Complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents and /or radiation sources in the workplace.
Uses universal safety precautions to protect self and coworkers from bio-hazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
Report any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the hospital or standard of service for patient, employees or visitors and situations which put patients, staff or visitors at risk for injury or other harm.

Requirements

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from an approved college or university.
Current DHA license to practice as Laboratory Technician in Dubai.
Minimum of 2 year working experience in phlebotomy section in a laboratory.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of Computers and Laboratory Information System.
Working knowledge of Quality Control Standards & applications.
Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.
