Employment: Full Time

The Physiotherapy Assistant, while under the supervision and direction of a Physiotherapist, will be responsible for the medical care of patients and will also be required to be involved in non-clinical hospital matters. The Physiotherapy Assistant will also be responsible for compliance to the ethical and professional standards set by the Hospital and regulatory authorities

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
- Assisting the physiotherapist with patient therapy e.g. moving and handling, bilateral limb movements, 2 person gait training, group activity.
- Carry out planned therapy programs following specific instruction from the physiotherapist e.g. supervise existing exercise programs, apply equipment for patients to continue their specified exercise programs, and facilitate patients practicing functional activities.
- Carry out programs that carers would be expected to do e.g. passive and assisted range of movement activities, application of orthotics.
- Measure and instruct in the use of simple mobility aids e.g. walking sticks.
- Prepare and apply the following physiotherapy adjuncts following physiotherapist instructions.
- Wax baths Hydrocollator packs Ice packs CPM machines (settings to be changed by the supervising physiotherapist) TENS (settings to be done by the physiotherapist) Exercise equipment.
- Assist with tilt table and hoist. Group work e.g. exercises.
- Reception, clerical and housekeeping duties may be included in the role.
- Activities related to patient care but not part of physiotherapy interventions e.g. escorting patients, preparing patients for treatment, dressing, preparing files.

Requirements

- Bachelors degree program in Physiotherapy from accredited Institution, college or university.
- 3 yr experience in designated field.
- Must be proficient in the English language.
- Knowledge of computers is important.
- Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
- Excellent personal attributes.
- Must show ability to relate to other staff members and be able to successfully contribute to training functions.
- Readiness to take up assigned responsibility.
- Previous hospital experience will be an advantage
