Piping Design Engineer

Job Responsibilities
- Piping and piping supports designs (complex and simple)
- Apply criteria for stress analysis to decide if stress analysis is needed.
- Stress analysis calculations and modeling for piping systems.
- Bill of materials for piping and piping supports.
- Hot tap pressure calculations.
- Projects piping specifications based on company specifications.
- Project proposals related to piping/mechanical aspects.
- Engineering calculations for piping designs.
- Man-Hours estimation, Material take off and cost estimates of projects.
- Design calculations.
- Hydro-testing requirements.
- Company specifications and standards.
- Defining QA requirements and developing QCs.
- Modeling of critical pipes on electronic software.
- Scope of work for piping/mechanical jobs.

Other job responsibilities include the followings duties;
- Capable of efficiently using software such as Micro-Stations to draw his own designs directly on in the system. He should be also capable of doing the work manually.
- Utilize draft men, CAD Operators or PDS specialists to transform his designs into electronic drawings systems such as Micro-station, Auto-Cad, SPPID, or other software. He shall be capable of efficiently assigning tasks to these individuals and check their work after completion.
- Candidate must be capable of planning, prioritizing, and organizing his work activities to achieve department objectives.
- Apply experience, engineering techniques, codes, standards, analysis calculations, specification, company procedures, sound judgment, and design criteria to conduct his work.
- Candidate shall be capable of collecting and searching for documents and drawings to do his work. He shall be capable of reading P&IDs, isometrics, plot plans, equipment layouts, underground drawings and any other types of drawings/documents needed to do the work. Ensure that all piping works done at company are per approved specifications.
- Prepare quality assurance and control documents for piping/mechanical jobs.
- Ensures designs are safe, sound, per approved standards, reliable, construct-able, conveniently operable and done in economical manner.
- Field inspection of work activities, surveying and measurement taking of piping systems.
- Act as project engineer or lead engineer for piping/mechanical related projects/jobs.
- Work directly with project engineers, designers, CAD operators, and draft men to ensure work activities are coordinated. He may also be required to supervise and train these personnel.
- Use software related to piping for design, calculations and preparation of design packages.
- Use Caesars II stress analysis software for performing stress analysis.
- Review shop drawings,
- Research various design options for piping designs.
- Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
- Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices

Requirements

Candidate must have strong knowledge of piping design and drafting experience.

He will be responsible for designing complete and complex piping systems in petrochemical plant including performing of stress analysis.

He shall have strong knowledge in computer aided design software such as Micro-station and AutoCAD.

He shall be capable of reading engineering drawings, standards, specifications and codes.

- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BS) from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 7 years of design experience with engineering firms or with design offices.
- Capable of designing major and complex piping configurations in critical services.
- Very strong in Caesar II stress analysis software.
- Very conversant in ASME B31.3 code.
- Very conversant in performing pressure calculations for hot taps.
- Very knowledgeable of various grades of piping and plate materials both CS and SS.
- Experienced in Micro-Station and Auto-Cad.
- Knowledge of industry standards and codes.
- Very experienced in Microsoft suite of applications.
- Capable of writing narrative scopes of works.
- Able to drive a car with valid driving license.

Other duties may also include special tasks such as trouble shooting piping/stress issues, managing piping/mechanical intensive projects, training colleagues, etc.

Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from accredited university and at least 12 years of experience in engineering and design.

Position will be in engineering and design office of a major petrochemical company (Saudi Chevron Phillips S-Chem) in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Chevron Phillips Co. is a large scale benzene production facility in Saudi Arabia. And Jubail Chevron Phillips Co. is an integrated Olefins/Ethylbenzene/Styrene Facility, with Saudi Polymers Company as a world scale facility producing Ethylene, Propylene, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polystyrene and 1-Hexane.
