The Role


The Role


Supports the Construction and Assistant Construction Manager by evaluating and addressing engineering matters associated with the piping requirements of the construction package(s). The position reviews proposed field changes, performs engineering analysis and makes recommendations to management. Performs site inspections and witnesses tests, as necessary, in support of piping matters identified by the Construction Management and the Construction Supervision Teams. Monitors risks/problems and helps develop options to resolve. Provides input and review/approval of the daily and weekly reports, as required. The Specialty Piping Engineer at this level is proficient in the utilization of standard engineering theories and practices and may involve CAE (Computer Aided Engineering)/CAD (Computer Aided Design) applications.

Key Tasks and Duties:

Responsible to review as-built drawings for compliance with issued for construction drawings as related to piping.

Reviews proposed engineering changes received from the contractors and advises the Construction Manager or Assistant Construction Manager of any potential issues related to area of expertise.

Works with the Construction Team to define workable engineering solutions as required for the construction package(s) assigned with focus on the piping requirements for water, storm sewer and foul sewer systems, irrigation systems, etc.
Reviews method statements and provides comments related to piping engineering designs.

Provides answers to engineering-related RFIs in conjunciton with the Design Team and Engineer.

May conduct inspections to determine if specialty and other piping works have been done in accordance with contract specifications.

May be required to witness pressure tests, destructive and nondestructive tests on metals and other materials through magnalflux, dye-penetrant, radiographic, tension, paint thickness, and resistivity.

Calls for additional testing or repeat testing, as required.

Prepares periodic special reports summarizing engineering-related issues related to piping installation, testing, and acceptance.

Responsible for following up on instructions and commitments associated with the construction project.

Performs other engineering tasks as may be deemed necessary by the Construction and Assistant Construction Manager.

Requirements


4-year degree in Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field, and 10+ years of related work experience, GCC experience is preferred. Experience in piping and specialty piping design, inspection, and testing required commensurate with the construction of large industrial or infrastructural projects including water, storm sewer and foul sewer systems, irrigation systems and other piping systems. Registration as a professional engineer desirable.

Proven ability to perform in a technical role, good written and oral communications skills, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are also required. In addition, must be knowledgeable of current technology and how it can be effectively utilized on the project.
