Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Plaster Technician, working closely with relevant physicians, is responsible for applying casts to patients following orthopedic surgical procedures and providing information to patients and colleagues regarding plaster casting.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
- Fit and apply pre-operative braces and crutches
- Assist in preparing and applying casts and orthopedic appliances
- Remove sutures, casts, and splints
- Assist with orthopedic procedures, including wound care and fracture reductions
- Provide advice to patients regarding the care of casts
- Set up traction as requested by the physician and assess patients in traction
- Manage stock and equipment according to Hospital policy
- Ensure that expected health and safety standards are maintained

Requirements

- Education: Plaster Technician technical qualification from an accredited institution.

Specialized Skills/Abilities/Experience Required:
- Minimum of two years post qualification experience as a Plaster Technician or other relevant position
- Knowledge of, and the ability to follow, all procedures relating to plaster casting
- Ability to set up traction and assess patients in traction
- Ability to manage stock and equipment particularly as this relates to ordering and stocktaking
- Able to work independently within set guidelines
- Excellent interpersonal skills Fluent in written and spoken English; Arabic language skills will be well regarded
- Good computer skills, particularly in MS Office
- Ability to communicate calmly and effectively with patients and patients families
