The Role


Scope of responsibilities
Lead a team of engineers and designers in carrying out detailed engineering work for large sized projects assuming entire responsibility for conceptual and detailed design and provide necessary technical information for procurement in compliance with tender specifications/data sheets and within budgeted man-hour and project schedules.

Primary duties
Review the ITB (Invitation To Bid) documents submitted in the proposals stage, issue inquiry requisitions, review techno-commercial vendor offers, prepare equipment, material and man-hour estimates.

Lead the preparation of the Technical Document Register (TDR) for process activities, including the preparation of Piping and Instrumentation Flow Diagrams (P&ID’s), Process Block Flow Diagrams (BFD’s), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s), Utility Flow Diagrams (UFD’s), Heat and Material Balance, Utility and Instrument Flow Diagrams, Process Safety Diagrams, Material Selection Flow Diagrams (MSD’s), Pressure and Temperature Diagrams (PTD’s), Preliminary Equipment Layouts, Equipment Data Sheet Sketches, Hazardous Area Clarification Diagrams, Fire and Safety Equipment Layouts, Fire Proofing Zones Diagrams and other required layouts and diagrams and documents. Identify and resolve discrepancies and divergences from original proposal through the instigation of technical queries to projects/client.

Verify and conceptualize the most optimum work route. Identify a clear scope of work/supply and accordingly plan/schedule the engineering activities and manpower resource. Identify and quantity total number of engineering deliverables, man-hour allocation, format of delivery, time schedules and other requirements for execution of the work.

Coordinate with projects and planning on project time schedules, establish target completion dates, ensure target dates are achieved.

Develop Manpower charts and schedules, recommend, assign and distribute manpower for the execution of engineering activities within budgeted project man-hours. Recommend cost effective measures to reduce overall manpower costs.

Supervise system engineering for finalizing P&I diagrams, performing equipment sizing / rating calculations and finalizing suitable materials of construction conforming to process/ service requirement

Supervise the verification of design integrity. Use Process Simulation software such as HYSIS and PIPESIM to ensure project specification details in the FEED Packages are feasible. Interpret and evaluate reports using outputs produced by HYSIS. Evaluate and compare the various Feed package documents and Data Sheets using scope of supply analysis and heat-and-mass balance calculations. Identify discrepancies and inconsistencies take corrective action where required.

Supervise the preparation of design and equipment calculations for identification and verification of equipment parameters including calculations for valve sizes, pumps, vessels, exchangers, columns, safety valves, control valves, shutdown valves, line sizing, logic diagrams and etc. Prepare sizing calculations, cause-and-effect charts, Heat and Mass balance calculations and shutdown logic for completion of P&ID’s and PDS sheets, provide input to the various downstream engineering disciplines for document preparation to vendors for Bid invitations.

Lead the preparation of equipment lists for downstream engineering disciplines. Ensure equipment compatibility and conformance with client specifications. Recommend cost effective improvements in design layouts and/or equipment specifications within the scope of client specifications and requirements.

Supervise the preparation of Start up and Operations Manuals. Prepare Operational Test Procedures (OTP’s) when required. Provide support to commissioning teams when required.

Interface and regularly meet with client and vendor representatives, conduct internal staff meetings, ensure the progress of project in accordance to schedule, allotted man hours and budgeted costs. Coordinate with projects and planning departments on schedule related issues. Update TDR progress reports through the use of PETROCEPT software.

Perform/supervise all safety related process calculations such as blow-down /depressurizing, safety relief etc. Close out HAZOP actions related to process design and implement the action in process documents.

Interact with Quality Assurance for quality issues, strictly ensure compliance with Company’s ISO Quality procedures. Coordinate Internal and Client audit requests, facilitate audit procedures of engineering systems within the department.


Interface and provide clarification and guidance and technical support to construction sites and commissioning engineers provide startup assistance as required.

Provide Performance / utility guarantees and prepare guarantee test procedure.

Participate in employee performance evaluations, establish performance criteria, identify employee strengths and weaknesses, recommend training and development requirements.

Perform related duties as and when directed by Direct Supervisor.

Supervisory responsibility
Supervise Four Engineers and Four Designers.

Requirements


Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 18 years of related petrochemical experience preferable from a background in working for consultancy organizations in the EPC of the Oil and Gas Industry.

In depth knowledge with standard international specifications and codes i.e. British Standard BS, ASME, IBR, EJMA, AWWA, ANSI, API, NFPA and IS standards and codes
Knowledge in detailed Engineering projects.
Knowledge of Safety and Quality Procedures
